***WARNING - SEASON FINALE SPOILERS AHEAD***

So apart from being two of the best episodes of the entire show, the season finale, as I feared, has shattered one of the major selling points of my story - Star Dreamer is Twilight's only friend. Of course, according to the new episode, Shining Armour takes that position. What's worse, she then goes off on a song which basically lays out my entire concept for Star (minus the brother part, that is). Don't get me wrong, that song is now my favourite song of the series, I absolutely adore that song, but now my entire story has been messed up. Curse you canon, for being the thing I'm supposed to adhere to! The awesomeness of the finale makes up for it somewhat, but still. Can we talk about how awesome that episode was for second? I mean, mind control? Epic fight scenes?! 5 SONGS?! CHANGELINGS?! FILLY TWILIGHT?!

I suppose it's not the most important thing in the world. After all, what's most important is the story at hand, not how it disrupts the show's flow. My story is in no way canon anyway. Even so, it's annoying to know that my story doesn't follow the source material that made its existence possible. And I can't change it either, because that scene pretty much renders the concept of my story obsolete. There are ways I can warp it, but I'm worried that that'll just make it seem contrived.

So here's my question to you, the readers. Do you get frustrated if a story doesn't adhere to canon? Is there anything that would let the author off the hook? Is the introduction of Shining Armour going to affect your appreciation of my story?
