You know, I've been reading some of the forums on this site recently, and I've come to a conclusion.
There are--now, prepare yourself--some people that do not like clop!
I know, right?!
Okay, in all seriousness, I am having a bit of trouble understanding why there are people that are just SO upset by it. I understand not liking it. I'm fine with that. It's the absolute level of vitriol that some people have about it that amazes me.
I know, I know, this is hardly new news, and it's something that I've touched on before, but reading it so often in some of the forums is just amazing. Of course, I do have the belief that the loudest speakers are generally the ones that are either a) the most interested in the thing that they protest, or b) attention whores. Not that we aren't all a little into attention as writers. You have to have a bit of an ego to believe that anyone would want to read something that you've written.
Nonetheless, I would just like to say this one thing: Don't judge a story until you've read it. If you don't like it after that, fine, but you cannot lump every story together just because they may fall into the same category.

I have a theory that there are more of us out there that like clop than those who do not. The problem is that those who do not, are very vocal about their disdain for it. It is easier to go about complaining about a taboo subject then it is to... uh... expound the virtues of it.
That's often the case with people who are very vocally homophobic. You may have something there...
I saw an author that was (and still is) a very good writer who was pretty quiet most of the time, aside from a few benign blog posts. One day he started this whole mess about people "poisoning the purity of the show" and what not. Clop was at the top of his hate-list, but he basically demanded the removal and censorship of anything that would not be considered appropriate material for MLP or that is not true to the characters. He was vicious about it and pretty much all of his readers were against him. He ended up "leaving the fandom forever" (meaning he returned in a week with an apology).
I say this because if I recall he said that anyone associated with clop should be rotting in prisons or dead or something.
Funnily enough he was writing about full-scale war and human x pony romance.
