Ever had a job? The first job you ever get, that's pretty much unforgettable. All that toil and the work you put into it to show that you belong there and the group of friends you get to make for the first time there and all those talkative mates who sit right next you and talking about everything until you put your MP3 on to shut out the noise. You never forget that.
My job would have been a dream come true. A job that suited my style of living and working. Then it came crashing down.
It was a deconstruction shop. We took electronics. Computers, photocopiers, phones, radio, printers, as long as it wasn't one of those old big TV blocks, we took it in. I made a record of disassembling five computers a day. No other station there could make that record. I had a short lunch and then back to work. I really wanted something to do and I was glad there.
And all that, for $94 a month.
Yes. 94 dollars. And no, I don't live in the US. I live in Sweden. We have a decent economy, most tend to live expensive, it's hard to find a job these days but the salary here is excellent: It comes round to 2826 dollars a month on average. And I would only get 94. At that point, you just simply say no.
I don't even know how that is legal. I disassembled five computers a day for that? I got a huge debt to pay off to my mentor who gave me a demo to become a pro voice actor. I may be deadbroke and desperate but I got standards. That's not a job I was doing. That was just some glamored slavery-shit with the name "Daily activity" written on it instead. The shop earned way more than that when selling all those separate parts for recycling so you got to ask: "What do they do with the money?" I have no idea but if I don't earn more than that, I can't see the purpose of it.
I'm done. I'm not gonna work there anymore. They can do their thing as much as they want but if I got to be there, then I deserve some fucking more money than that.
That's pretty bogus. Burn the shop down or hunt down the owner and flay him alive.
Or, if you want to act normal, if it turns out that they were indeed ripping you off then persue legal action. If other staff also join in on the court case then the business will most likely give up without much of a fight as long as you have concrete evidence that proves their guilt.
