Brand-spanking new and not particularly surprising rejection for We'll Dismember It For You, Wholesale!
Aside from a few textbook grammatical flubs, the story was rejected because:
...while I loved the story and its demented humor, Seth would have my head if we posted anything that went this over the line. A lot of the bits (i.e. tree in vagina joke, drug references, rimjob jokes, chopping up the body and feeding it to the fish) go way over the line in what we could post on the blog. So, while I enjoyed the story, I’m in the awkward position of having to turn it down.
Which is fair enough, based on their rules and their audience. They said it would likely get accepted if I changed those elements, but also that they'd understand it would be an entirely different story without those elements. However, it's clear that times have changed at Equestria Daily. Here are some choice quotes from a certain six-star rated story on EqD:
I realized that in my carelessness, I had pissed on that meatloaf; and now I have to eat the pissy meatloaf.
“Does he still call everyone a bucket of cunts?” I ask.
“Oh yeah, that. I broke thirty legs, killed two ponies and stole five kilos of moon dust to make up my share. Fun times.”
“Wait, what does Hoofdini'd mean?” asks Dash.
“Oh, it's this magic trick that Trixie does. She takes a bunch of knives, some tarpaulin and a bag of quicklime and makes a pony disappear” I say.
The griffon method uses a sharp knife.
I see what he is doing with the soldering iron.
I also notice quite a few grammatical errors in those quotes alone, so either their standards have changed, or they've actually started reading the fics they receive...
It's not so much that the standards changed, it's more that they actually decided to have some.
I would say their standards have changed. Remember, back in the old days, they would accept everything under the sun. There were fics up with dirtier jokes than your story.
Eh, they hide behind the "grandfathered in" excuse for things like that. hell, Death Note Equestria is pretty much blatant plagiarizing of the anime, like almost exactly the same, to the point of twisting characters to make them fit the roles, but they never took it down.
This from a site that happily publishes violent rapefics if they're under the "Fallout: Equestria" tag.

Two years in December. Badly-needed rework currently upcoming.
The phases of EQD standards went through, in my perception:
Basically anything.
Mostly good stuff.
Sea of mediocrity + popular authors and verses from previous phases + not very sane rejection letters.
I do not go there anymore, so I don't know if there were any more phases after that.

It's a rework. The core of the story will be the same, but each chapter will essentially be completely new as it's released.

Wait a minute, I know those quotes! I think I cracked up the first time I read the pissy meatloaf line, and it still brings a big retarded grin to my face.
And look at the bright side, at least you weren't rejected in a way that, well, the EqD rejections can get especially condescending and insulting. At least the guy liked it. Personally, I don't mess with EqD.
I'm surprised it's even allowed here on Fim, the admins are creating crazy rules that are really pissing me off, I think I might just quit writing and reading all together and get a real job.
But I really enjoyed reading it!

They seem to have gone even further, to the point of having quite a few sets of standards. One for FO:E, one for established authors, one for the unwashed masses, etc.
But, hey, I'm sure I just don't know them well enough.
