Cyberpunk Concept: Friendship is Software · 7:04am Oct 20th, 2013
Had a little brainstorm today. Both in my fan fiction and my original fiction, I've been wanting to get more into the literary genre of cyberpunk. I don't just mean the world that you see in William Gibson's Neuromancer, where everybody's got razor implants under each fingertip, a skull jack, and a beef with their corporate overlords. I mean the ever-evolving intersection of humans and technology.
Somehow, I keep thinking I'll find a way to merge this passion with the Mane Cast. I know there's a cyberpunk group already on here, but I'm still working out my own concept.
What I've so far is Friendship is Software. Instead of six ponies who use the magic of friendship to prevail against the forces of darkness, you've got six young women who use source code, high tech gear, and bio-augmentation (and friendship) to take down threats to the State. The roles and personalities wouldn't change much, but I think it'd be cool to see how an urbane, modern concept could be adapted to something lighthearted and comedic, without losing that touch for adventure.
At the moment, it's still an idea. I'll have to see how things develop--and if anyone can give me ideas on where to go, or wants to take a crack at this themselves, let me know!
