    Goodbye, Fimfiction!

Well, anyone who read my previous blogs could probably see this coming, but... I have now drifted sufficiently far from the fandom that I no longer feel motivated to actually read new fics, and the old fics I stopped reading a while ago.
Literally the only thing keeping me coming back here are the blogs of smart people, and people who lead interesting lives.

    Well then

I've decided to give up reading incomplete fanfics. In fact, I'm not to sure about complete fanfics either. Still, if you want me to read something, finish it, and give me a shout. If you really want me to read something, make it an e-book before you call me.

    Screw it - I quit!

You read that right. I won't be fanficcing anymore.
For the past ... always, I have treated the authors and stories I have subscribed to as something of an obligation.
I approached them with the same attitude I brought to normal books - 'I got this because I like it, so I _will_ finish it'.

    More Bookshelves

So, those of you who have somehow managed to stumble upon my page my have noticed that the number of bookshelves I have is slowly multiplying.
So, in my eternal quest to procrastinate, I have come to the decision that I may as well explain my shelving system.

    Bookshelves?

Ooh, a new feature! What could it be? What could it be?

    ...

    Seriously?

So, after that rubbish where they combine our 'tracking' and 'favourite' functions, as, apparently 'everyone' just uses favourite, they give us our tracking button back and have the nerve to call it an update?!
No, damn it! Restoring the status quo _is not_ an 'update'!

Now, this may be a surprise, but on occasion I do like to read fanfics on other sites. From other fandoms, even.
Now, I know, what some of you are saying - 'But you have so many stories on FIMFic, how can you read more?'
Well, yes, I have a ton of stories followed, and a ton more on my 'to read' list. The sad truth is, if I haven't reviewed your story in more than a month, I'm not likely to come back to it. And if your story is already five or more chapters, or has a significant word count, I'm not likely to start reading it anytime soon.
But back to the main issue. I mostly used to read on fanfiction.net . Some fo you may be aware of it.
A while ago, I became aware of something of a controversy over there. Something about censorship, and a mass movement to abandon ship. Consequently, the emails I got telling me of updates were dramaticaly reduced - such that, a month ago, when thyey stopped entirely, I thought nothing of it.
But there are authors here who (horror of horrors) post stories on multiple sites! So, when I noticed a particular story I was following update a few times on fimfic, but never fanfic, I got suspicious. I checked to see if Outlook had decided to start putting them in the junk folder (Because as we all know, Microsoft products are shoddy, mass produced pieces of rubbish that only get by because everyone already knows how to use them, and can't be bothered to learn anything new). But no, surprisingly, Microsoft appeared not to have failed me.
Before I send an angry email to FF.net, however, I decide to see if, perhaps, Outlook has run out of memory, or something similar (I dunno, I'm not really a computer person), and is simply not saving my updates when they come. So to Gmail I go - only to find that it is _Google_ who is putting my updates into the spam folder, and apparently Microsoft simply doesn't beleive that 'spam' and 'junk' are the same thing.
So now I have a hundred (no, literally, 100 exactly) story updates worth of backlog to burn through. Which means I'm likely not to be present while I catch up.
