Night or obscenely early morning Sept 26.
Health: Pretty Good.
Mood: Nervouscited.
Well, here it goes. I'm posting my fanfic for a 40k / MLP crossover. I don't know how FIM Fiction as a whole will treat me, I just know I wanna get my story out. It's pretty much the center of my FiM creative life because, really, I don't have so much an OC as a Pony Avatar that'd be what I assume I'd see looking back at me if I were to wake up in Equestria and look into a mirror or common puddle.
So why 40k? honestly through a series of coincidences that's how I was introduced to FiM. More to the point, my imagination went crazy and a series of dreams inspired by stuff the fandom created really made me believe that these universes could mix and do so in ways that asked and answered questions that pressed at me and in general could tell a gripping story. I've gone over the existing 40k crossovers but I haven't seen the dynamics and scenarios I wanted to explore. let's see, what have I seen:
There's the pony parody'ing, which is essentially replacing humanity with Ponydom and acting as if humans had always been ponies, which is awesome in a visual language.
And then there's the semi human-centric stories of a marine or unit or invasion spontaneously in Equestria, an interesting setup for sure.
And then there's the stories where Equestria is just one planet across the untold billions within the Imperium. these stories are typically well written and show a lot of love, but i can't get over the suspension of disbelief that it requires: I can't accept that Equestria is just one planet within that galaxy and subject to all its laws.
And finally, there's the pseudo-parody that incorporates the 40k lore into the MLP setting, typically expressed as Celestia Empress and Luna Warmaster. I can't accept these stories enough to enjoy them because I feel it's actually diminishing to reduce any of the MLP cast to the character traits of the personalities they've been given. That and Chaos Ponies as a whole. I'm not going to overdo it and say they can't be, that'd just be stupid: to over-reaching fanboy fails to remove the rose-colored goggles and imagine his beloved characters as fallen. They are, however, stories that start in the middle as it were. I wanted to read a story that came in at the beginning of it, one where you don't know what will happen to those characters you love, one where it hasn't been accepted as a given that Luna or Gilda or indeed anyone is 'evil' and will be consumed by the Chaos Gods whether they survive the next battle with the loyalists or die by claw or bolter fire.
I'm writing an origin adventure, one that's open-Nature enough to encompass a broad variety of pony fantasies set within this universe.
And more importantly, one that's written in-character with the show; enough so that it isn't a crossover in the amalgam sense as much as it is a huge issue of 'What if...'
"what if..."
"What if FiM had to deal with 40k? What if they were forced to deal with their universe? How would it happen, what forces would they have to deal with, what horrors could they face?"
"And how would our beloved Mane 6 and supporting cast's special talents and inherent natures help them deal with them?"
FIM Fiction, you're about to get my answer to those questions. I hope you enjoy the trip.
