'The Mare Behind the Mare' Inducted Into The Royal Canterlot Library

I'm honored and humbled to announce that the prestigious curators of the Royal Canterlot Library have decided to feature 'The Mare Behind the Mare' as their most recent inclusion, despite me not making it particularly easy for them to track me down so I could complete the interview portion.

Hard Reset: The Movie: The Netflix Miniseries: The Review

I'm not actually going to subject you to the same shtick as when I reviewed Edge of Tomorrow. That's funny once and only once. But! This past weekend I watched Russian Doll on Netflix, Which is very much a merger between Groundhog Day and, uh, probably Final Destination, but I'll get to that.

Reviews of Games You'll Probably Never Play If you Haven't Already: The Dig

Oh my God, Eakin! You're making blog posts after being away for so long! Does that mean you're going to start updating your stories again?

    What a great question!

    How To: Slice of Life

I wrote this back in 2013 for the site, but it never ended up getting posted anywhere. I fought it again today when I was sifting through my Google Docs folder and I figured that since I haven't had much of a presence on the site for the last couple of months I might as well toss it up in the hopes that somepony somewhere finds it helpful.

I Think I Need A Break From Pony for Awhile. · 9:46am Sep 24th, 2013

At least for a couple of days. Sorry, guys. Obs? I'll contact you and fix the whole coop thing soon. PM me. Everyone else, don't take this the wrong way. I plan to come back, someday (heh, I'll probably miss you guys so much I'll be back by the weekend). Right now, though, the magic's gone. I've counted on the feeling of enchantment to help me get by, but maybe I need to get real. I'm sure I'll be back before the new season premieres, but there are more productive, (and yeah, more profitable) directions to turn my focus towards.

Not planning to leave forever! Heck, you probably get another post from me within a week launching the cooperative story I'm working on. But this place doesn't feel as special as it used to. I need to recharge.

I love you guys. I hope I'll see you soon.

I wish you a grand day, a good time, and hope that life treats you well in resting.

Honestly, with the shitstorm currently brewing? I don't blame you. See you later, stay save, Eakin! :pinkiehappy:

Don't be a stranger now.

But, I need my Cloud Kicker fix. :fluttercry:

Ah well, you gotta do what you gotta do, and I can understand needing a break after the unpleasantry.

Stay cool. /)

we love you too Eakin!:rainbowkiss:

Recharge your batteries and come back stronger than even.

See ya dude.

Hope you get back into the swing of it soon.

~Skeeter The Lurker

Oh, well. I'll see ya soom, I hope.

I just need a week or so. I won't be long.

I have a bad feeling that you'll never come back

1372246
Guess you'll have to wait and see!

1372252
Spoilers: I'll be back for season four, if nothing else

If you decide to write non-pony related fics elsewhere, could you maybe let us know ? :)

1372284
Absolutely! Hell, I'll be counting on all of you to buy a copy!

Do what you need to do to stay sane. Take care, and hope to see you back soon!

Getting Time Loop withdrawal already. :fluttershysad:

Have a good break; hope you get back soon. :)

Well, I hope you have fun on your break and successfully recharge:scootangel:. We'll miss you while you're gone:pinkiesad2:, but it's understandable to need a break from things:pinkiesick:, even ponies:applejackunsure:. Good luck with your "more profitable" endeavors as well. :pinkiehappy:

First Calpain on EQD, now Eakin on Fimfiction. It's been a sad few days to be sure. I felt super in the dumps after Friday night's fiasco. Now on this Tuesday morning I'm feeling slightly better. I said it on the nightly round up thread and I'll say it again here: Season 4 CANNOT come fast enough.

Enjoy your break, we await your return

I know what you mean. Exept I'm completely leaving the fandom.

Sorry about the whole pointless mod shit. Take your break. I'll have some new fanfic for you out the other side.

Only partially related: man, this S3-S4 break has been brutal with pony fatigue. The Vault closing (though I'm working with a team that's trying to pick up the slack), and a wave of disappearances or hiatuses or reinventions, folks like darf and theycallmejub burning out, stories on my follow list drying up. I am beginning to fear we've passed peak pony. Still, I've got stories I still want to tell, and I hope you do too. Will think of you fondly either way.

Take a nice holiday and come back refreshed. Don't worry about the actions of unthinking idiots.

I have to admit this is one of the more fractious fandoms I've been a part of. Of course most of my fandoms are based upon dead shows, with nothing new to look forward to, or on niche products with little chance of widespread popularity, so they tend to be small and fairly steady with little to argue about.

This is a fandom that is still growing, and evolving to find itself. The drama is a sign that it's very much alive. It's just a shame that there has to be so much fallout.

Seems like these last few days have been extremely stressful for many people.

Well, take your time and recover. We wouldn't want you to be completely burnt out.
I guess we'll be seeing you soon.

May wellness remain your companion.

1372393

I second Second Law's motion.

Does that make it Third Law? :trixieshiftleft:

And wasn't that about protecting yourself from harm, if you're a robot, that is? :trixieshiftright:

Rest well, bro. Your friends will be waiting for you.

(Telegraphic style is, well, you know...)

1372410

No, that clearly makes it a fourth law. :trollestia:

Having seen you do a lot of writing, and the pace at which you do so when you have a mind to, I'll give you it a week before your explosive need to write reaches critical mass. :pinkiehappy:

You lost comments. And yeah, that sucks, especially given the way people tend to post thoughts on the story in the last available chapter. And the mods were... less than tactful, and made everyone's life harder to fix a problem that probably wasn't actually a problem.

But... at the end of the day, you'll write more of your usual awesomeness. You'll get lots of new, delicous comments and feedback.

Internet mods doing their usual thing (occasionally losing their minds), doesn't detract from the badassitude of your stories. Or the enthusiasm of your fans. Or anything of substance, really. It makes life a little lamer. But is said small average lameness increase worth much, compared to the fan-love?

Personally, I'm not that worried. I know you've got a good, level head, Eakin. That jerkstore journalist didn't make you quit the fandom. One thoughtless mod sure as heck isn't going to either.

1372418

Fourth? But then who's on third? Or was that When? :rainbowlaugh:

If you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it. Nothing for it but a little break.

Take all the time you need! We can wait.

Just please make sure you do come back eventually. :fluttercry:

Write on,
Legion

>I am beginning to fear we've passed peak pony.
What you said interested me, so I went and did some google trends searches.
http://www.google.com/trends/explore?q=fimfiction#q=fimfiction%2C%20my%20little%20pony%3A%20friendship%20is%20magic%2C%20equestria%20daily&cmpt=q
It looks to me like peak pony was way back in April of 2012. Fimfiction still seems to be getting about as much activity as it always has though. Oddly enough Equestria daily looks like it is dying down completely sometime soon(or maybe it is just waiting for the big season 4 revive).

Everyone needs a break now and then. Enjoy your vacation from pony.

Take all the time you need, man. I think I speak for all of us when i say we understand, and we wish you the best. Just come back, yeah? We miss you when you're gone.

We've all gotten burned out before, and you've got a very understandable reason for feeling that way. Hope you feel better after your break.

Come on, be real. EVERYPONY has or will take a break from pone at some point. It's no big deal. Just relax (or work, I won't judge) or whatever, and come back when you feel like it. We'll miss ya, but we understand! See ya when we see ya. :moustache:

Looks like the break'll do you good on multiple levels. Have a good reset.

Breaking from time to time is not good. It is NEEDED. So have fun! :D

Already looking forward to your return, enjoy the break :pinkiehappy:

Hope you come back soon, Eakin. :fluttershysad:

I've been a member of furry fandom for about 15 years now, and man, back in the day furry was a drama-generating machine. The differences and similarities are a topic way too broad for this sort of passing comment on an unrelated post, but because furry has never had a single unifying core canon in the same way that MLP has, it's always been both more fractured/insular and more prone to self-promoting celebrities which then get clashes of outsized ego.

It's also interesting to contrast the MLP fanfic community, which is self-enclosed and creator-driven in the same way that furry is, with the surrounding MLP fandom at large, which is a show-based fandom. Since I'm so heavily into fanfic here, a lot of my perceptions are colored by that bias.

1372560
That's a fascinating graph, especially in contrast with FIMFic's internal statistics, which show a remarkably linear growth in both reading and writing — no acceleration and no slowdown in a year and a half, which almost defies belief. (I expect statistics to fluctuate a little more organically, as your linked graph does; but at the same time there's no reason to disbelieve FIMFic's stats, because story numbers are visible right in story URLs and things like view counts are all public info.)

I think both fanfic and fandom will see a new spike in interest with Season 4, no question, although part of my worry with fanfic-dom specifically is that, well, we're not getting vast swaths of new material from the show any more. Fanfics are their own ecology now. I'm just as excited to be writing a story that spins off of Hard Reset (and yes this is actually a thing; Eakin should have chapters 5 and 6 available for reading by the time he returns) as I ever was to be writing a story that spins straight off the show.

1373125 The fimfic stats pages are almost all cumulative. They don't show the monthly or weekly numbers, so it's difficult to gauge any trends.

And I guess I've been lurking in very sheltered parts of the 'net. I never got into the furry fandom.

Take care Eakin, stay away from the light! :pinkiecrazy:

See you later Eakin. Sorry to hear about the mess at the moment.

once season 4 starts.....

Sometimes we need to take a break from something, and that is perfectly fine. We all take some blows from this journey that is life, and sometimes the best way to react is to take a step back, take an account, and get some rest.

1373125
It looks to me like those numbers represent the total views comments and user profiles and not the increase per day, in that way the linear graphs actually make a lot of sense when compared to the Google chart.
