D: "What the... this is my high school! I graduated from here two years ago... Maybe?"

D: "Well, it seems... smaller.* Walks back and forth* Where did the addition go? It was expanded in 1996. And the bell tower! It looks... like it... wasn't... restored."
*Danielle looks around, noting the poofy hair, the shoulder pads, the single sequined glove a lot seem to be wearing* "Why don't I see any non-humans? Does anyone see anyone using a smartphone, or even a car made past..." *Runs to a newspaper kiosk and buys a paper* "Oh, no..."
*Twilight and Spike run to her* Spike: "What is it?"
*Danielle shows them the date* "This isn't a portal to another world. Well, it is, but it's to my world... but in 1985!"

I would assume the canon EQG universe to exist somewhere beyond their side of The Bleed. But it's cool to see that you have a way to handle it.

I'm still not sure if I'll do anything resembling EQG at all since the ponies in my world look sorta like the girls in the movie do when they activate the elements. Or something similar anyway. Dusk being what he is, looks just a little more human than the rest of the team. What is he, you ask? Well if I told you that it would spoil the plots of at least two of my fics! 
You'll have to read them to see just what Dusk is.

I bet we get some more details about how Mike and Megan got together plus funny bits of Danielle learning surprising stuff about her folks back then plus Danny and Molly were younger. Now I'm thinking of this.

That is a good point, which I think was one of the reasons why EqG went with the off skin colors. They didn't have to make the choice that might inadvertently cast a character with a racial stereotype... well that and makes the character recognizable.
If done well, I can see this being amazing. And look who would be writing it. YOU! So ergo, it will be done well.

You know, this might actually make for a great premise. It's not generic per se, and it would give Twilight and Spike a new appreciation for the craziness that Earth went through. Not to mention the shenanigans, the world of the autobots just arrived, the GI Joes at the height of Cobra power, Jem starting her touring, etc. etc. It would be a great time to start exploring all that canon you created for your precious earth, and turn it into a fun adventure with the student, the scholar and the friend.
