Scootaloo is one of those characters that is interesting because of what we don't know about her, mainly her family life and potential disability. I always thought it was a good idea not to parrot what they did with the other CMC and have her be the little sister of Dash or Flutters. You can get away with that once but were you really best friends with all of your older siblings best friends? So conjecture is all we are left with.
The season four sneak peak tells us we may have one of these questions answered and may even see her parents who knows. I always saw her as being an only child without the close protective circle Apple Bloom enjoys (and sometimes cafes under) and I assumed she had divorced or separated parents unlike Sweetie Belle. She seems like she lives with her dad. It's just in the way she behaves and interacts with her world.
So that's the origin of Scootadad. I wanted to write something a bit more inspired from my own life as a single dad raising a headstrong little Scoots of my own as primary caregiver.
