Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

My Little Alicorn Wrap-Up and What's Next · 8:41pm Apr 10th, 2012

Well, the fanfic is over. At long last, I am a free man once again.

First off, I would like to thank everyone that has taken the time to read the story. It's been a long while coming, and I know not everyone was completely happy with some of the story decisions, but it was still kind of you to stick through it all. This was a long story, far longer than I had ever intended, and certainly a much different tale than the one I had originally set out to write. But nonetheless, it's over, it's up, and while I'm not completely satisfied with how things turned out, I'm just glad people were entertained.

As for the last chapter, there isn't a lot to say that hasn't been said already. The thing was, to put it simply, rushed more than it should have been. Part of the problem, though, was that there really wasn't much story left to tell. Most of the subplots had been closed up in the three preceding chapters, which left only Blueblood and Twilight's book burning to tie up.

The other problem was that I had no real idea what to do with Blueblood. I had toyed with everything from Poison Joke to simple banishment, but couldn't find something that fit. Turning him into a colt was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Even then, I didn't want to end with a whole "start your whole life over" scenario. Things like that bother me. So I changed his fate to being forced to learn how to play nice before he would be turned back to normal. It also felt like it fit the fic's version of Celestia more; she was even willing to forgive Kuchen, after all.

And then there's Twilight.

Sadly, this was a bad holdover from an earlier idea. Initially, after all the story had been resolved, Celestia would have used the spell on Twilight, dressed her up, took some photos, and then sent her back to Ponyville once she was normal. The next day, Twilight and friends would have received a letter detailing how things are going in Canterlot...along with the photos. While I ditched most of the idea, I still included the bit with Celestia dressing up Twi. It...wasn't a good idea, given the general reaction. Funny, perhaps, but not really fitting with the rest of the story.

So...yeah, that's it. My Little Alicorn is over. The ending was left somewhat open, though, in case I decided to do a sequel. I already have two brewing in my head (one involving Filly Celestia in Ponyville, another involving Blueblood's trip to Magic Kindergarten), but those won't be coming for a while, if ever. Either way, the actual story was wrapped up, so things could stand on their own if need be.

As for what's next?

I'm already working on another fic, a one-shot with Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Hopefully a smaller cast will mean I can actually keep ponies IC for once. I also have a few other old ideas lying around, including a FiM/ST:TNG crossover, the original My Little Fillies idea, and a few others that got swallowed up by this one. In any case, I don't plan to stop writing, at least for a while. I just want to wait a little before tackling another huge project like this one.

Thanks for your time. See you around.

well ill keep a look out then good sir

Yes! it good story keep writin

Always good to find other story ideas to do. Good luck to you, sir.

I liked the ending. As you said pretty much all of your subplots had been wrapped up, and anything longer I feel would have just been dragging it out as the main plot had also been resolved. If anything you could have dropped Twilight getting turned into a filly again, but I don't think BB being spelled alone wouldn't have felt quite right..... so I like it.

I am also glad to hear that you plan on writing some more stories.

PS I think you are behind on your MLP viewing... they did a FiM/ST:TNG crossover at the start of season 2 :derpytongue2:

I thought the last chapter was fine. Sad that it's over, but glad that I read it. :pinkiesad2:
Also, this level of writing and me being a sucker for ST:TNG?...so. much. win! :pinkiehappy:

I had a third idea for a sequel. Celestia and Luna's parents suddenly arrive and, with Discord imprisoned, demand that the two monarchs have to leave Equestria to ascend to a higher level of being. Feeling both concern over thier subjects and abandonment issues the two princesses refuse, but cosmically powerful beings aren't used to taking no for an answer...

a FiM/ST:TNG crossover

:pinkiegasp: Yes, plz.

Definitely will be watching you

I'll be keeping an eye out for your next story

I have followed your story from almost the beginning, laughing and gripping the edge of my seat alternatively. I loved your portrayal of the cast, and I actually thought you did a great job at staying in Character, at least in general. Some OOC'ness is to be expected. It "is" a fanfic, after all.

I really wanted to point out that I thought Blueblood's Punishment was particularly inspired. Forced to attend Kindergarten again...The Horror! The HORROR!

The only thing I really disagreed with in this fic, and this is a matter of personal opinion, was your portrayal of Discord as Chaotic Evil. Mind you, I'm not disagreeing with the brutality of it, simply stating my opinion that a being like Discord can't be classified as Good or Evil...he's so old and so alien in being that he suffers from Blue and Orange morality.

That being said, however, I loved the Fic very much, and thought it was a blast to read. And I don't know about how any other readers felt, but I would say three things, in closing:

1) Filly Celestia was adorable, as was Filly Twilight. I would love to read the fic where F. Celestia goes to Ponyville.

2) Likewise, seeing Blueblood in Kindergarten (along with the comment about him stealing cookies. Haven't we /all/ done that?) would be hilarious.

3) And I think this final one goes without saying. Luna, if you please.

THOU DIDST A GREAT JOB!!!
