How to start a good story or tricks in general

Hi everyone out there. The final work-outs on "The Journey" are soon finished. I planned an end and several highlights. But - as usual - I have problems with a good start and given that english isn´t my language I can´t garantee a 100% mistake-free storytelling. I won´t use google translate trough. It worked horribly with my elfenlied-rpg-postings and well...never again. Maybe there are some

How to start a good story or tricks in general · 8:26pm Sep 16th, 2013

Hi everyone out there. The final work-outs on "The Journey" are soon finished. I planned an end and several highlights. But - as usual - I have problems with a good start and given that english isn´t my language I can´t garantee a 100% mistake-free storytelling. I won´t use google translate trough. It worked horribly with my elfenlied-rpg-postings and well...never again. Maybe there are some proofreaders out there, interested in giving me advice and with patience as I can´t have regular update-patterns.

My decision to start a story by myself is one: To improve my writing and also my understanding and the fluent use of the english language and two and most importantly: To give something back to you guys. What you do there is amazing and if I can somehow make your day a little better with this then it´s worth it ^_^

Enough babbling there. That were my two cents and I wish you highest creativity and success with your stories and your plans for the future. :3

Greetings

Speaking of amazing, I just read your pitch for 'The Journey' on your profile, and it sounds... amazing :twilightblush:

Somehow, I feel like I should apologize for my native language. English is crazy, there's no getting around that. :twilightoops:

I hear the 'gOO-gle trance-late' is a serious face hoof.
oh I hope the pun didn't hit you in your face, now.

Typos and grammar errorrs is something we all struggle with, just some more then others.
From Proof-reeders to Editors are available in several good groups, make sure to check them out and ask araound.
you may as well check for the commentary and review groups as well, both for feedback, and the eventual amusemsnt their comments will give.

oh yeah, EuroCFents, on your part, then? since Germany go by Euro, these days, right?

1354800 good thing there is no true magic in our world, or Anglic would screw us all over thricefoalded?
Pronounciation in Anglic sure is a mess. sorry.

1941658 google-translate is a master in screwing up. Tested it with a german sentence in an english-only elfenlied-roleplay. I couldn´t even recognize it when it translated it back to german. A few words here and there are no problem. Whole sentences? :facehoof:

And yes we have euro and cents in germany.

1941676 I think they have Discord writing the Translations, or maybe they have Q for backup translator, now wonder the reverse went out of control?
Elf RP, should be fun.

I think there is a game dedicated to the 'Google-trance-late' effect, but what it is called in Anglic or German, I can't come up with, we call it 'the Russiona post(mail).

1941660 :rainbowderp: :rainbowhuh: :rainbowlaugh:

I see what you did there.

It's been said that using English (oh, excuse me, 'Anglic') pronunciations, 'ghoti' could be spoken as 'fish'

gh makes an 'fff' sound in words such as tough and slough
many vowels have some way to make an 'ih' sound (specifically, e, i, & y)
and in a large number of words, ti has a 'sh' sound: vacation recuction ... etc.

1941792 There apparently are several words for this 'Language', and some may or may not have a special or deeper canotation.
Story telling is, and should be fun.
Language have great potential, but we collectively screw it up.
just send your message along a group of individauls and see what you get back, after a few of them have each explained it to the next in line?

1941810 Ah, you're familiar with the children's game 'telephone' then?

1941814 it's an old game to amuse and entertain kids, for one, right.
though you can see a deeper meaning, which incidentaly corespond to out little show.
just look at an Episode and see what you get out, then ask some pony else who just saw the same Episode and see what your friend red into it?
You may very well have seen a very different episode, even if it was the same one.

1941816 sounds interesting. Would like to play that too.
I also know the normal english but not the anglic pronouncing. Is this some more old-fashioned english?

1941841 There is several different versions of Anglic/English.
UK, US, Australian, Canadian, Indian, and a plefora of other versions, too many to list here.
They are pronounced and spelled differently, they even have different Vocabularies.
if you compare, US comes out as rude, compared with the UK that easily comes out as snopbish.
Just listen to someone speaking and see what you think of it?

Old-Fashioned would most likely be UK, or british in general.

1942166 kinda like dialects, I think? Like bavarian which is a speech disorder dialect in the southern region of Germany. I encountered a few differences in school when looking on the british and american english but not enough to be an expert on this. I´m going into business english as it is required for my future job.

1944742 there is an aspect of it, though you can study the same phenomina, comparing ponies from different back-grounds.
just lok at Rarity and Apple Jack?
the same thing can be observed, if you compare people from different walks of life.
Compre rurla people with city people?

For now, the onmly thing I've gotten down on separating Anglic, UK is Snobish compared with UK.
may be some historical crap behind it?
