A question. · 6:35am Sep 14th, 2013
EDIT:
Upon a second look at the story, and reading every chapter, the reviewer approved it. He said he was tired and being too picky, which I understand. It's gotta be hard going through stories which don't really interest you. I bear him no ill will. However, my question to you still stands.
Just wanted to ask you, guys and gals, do I need to rewrite these chapters? Are they too short? Is the story progressing too quickly? Is there a lack of character development? I realize it's a bit of a moot point with me shipping out so soon, but I do care, and if there's an issue, I'll fix it ASAP. Thanks.
"Do I need to rewrite these chapters?"
Absolutely not, especially if you don't want to. I believe they are fantastic the way they are.
"Are they too short?"
This is subjective, honestly. I like chapters between 3-5k words personally. They just have more story-per-chapter ratio. I wouldn't mind some longer chapters, but I do enjoy what you have currently.
"Is the story progressing too quickly?"
Not at all. Sure you could elaborate a bit more on certain bits and and flesh it out some, but I think its moving at a nice pace so far.
"Is there a lack of character development?"
This is a difficult question in an alternate reality story. While, yes, the characters or OOC and a bit sketchy, they're supposed to be for this kind of world. What I WOULD like to see is some more character continuity. You may already plan to do this, but I'd like to see more of characters like the stallion that tricked Scoots into the Navy in the first place (Not enough energy to go back and remember his name, lol). Maybe do a bit more showing, and a little less telling. That's all I got for you at 3 in the morning, so I hope it helped!
Keep it as it is. Resubmit after you have uploaded a couple of chapters.
Silver out!
I feel the starting chapters being shorter than later chapters is fine. But I would like to see chapters that are just a bit longer.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Future chapters will be longer, probably around the 2-2.5k mark. I'm also going to take a fresh look at the existing chapters when I get back from basic, and the sea battle in particular is going to get a heavy edit. Whitecap is indeed going to come back, but I think that's going to be in a possible sequel. There's no place for him in the story I've planned out for "Beat to Quarters".

Moot point. The reviewer's since gone back and approved it. Bit of a hollow victory, but I'll take it.

Thanks for your feedback. As I stated above, future chapters will indeed be longer.
