"Ghosts of Gods" should post soon · 9:58pm Sep 1st, 2013
I'm doing final editing on "Ghosts of Gods." For those who don't know, that's the second full-length novel in "The Sun Eater" continuity.
Unlike the first book, I will be posting this one in installments, as I edit it, chapter by chapter. Don't worry, I don't mean to spread them out over weeks. They'll go up as fast as I can get around to them. I'm just ready to get part of this thing posted.
Once this one goes up, I'm done with that continuity. It has gone so rogue on me at this point that I can't reconcile myself to continuing it. It has become almost unrecognizable as MLP:FiM in most respects, and judging by what I'm hearing about Season Four, it will continue to become more distant from the show proper. I can only go so far with this before I'm essentially just using names and a loose world template that aren't even applicable to the source material, anymore.
In a certain respect, I like that it has stepped so far outside the bounds of Hasbro-Faustian Equestria. It makes it distinct enough in my mind that when I go back and watch the show, I don't feel like I'm looking at the same world or characters that I write about, and so I don't view them through that same (excessively dark) lens.
However, if a world that I'm writing in has become that distinct, then it essentially proves that it's time for me to just start developing my own worlds, my own characters, etc. I've been working on an original book set in such a world for over a year, and once this is done, it will become the focus of my writing projects. If I do come back here to post any more stories, I will probably write more funny, G-rated stuff like "The Greatest Day of Her Life." I can spit out a story like that in a weekend, just for fun, and it's what people like to read the best, anyway, apparently.
It's strange that the two stories I have put the most effort into still have the fewest views, but I suppose its the nature of fanfiction and internet fiction in general that people really just want to hop in, read something for a few minutes, then hop out. Moreover, I doubt most bronies, given their general disposition, are all that interested in seeing Applejack hung over or Rarity cooking up a dose of heroine.
I've looked through the chapter views on "The Sun Eater." Maybe seventy people have read it in its entirety -- maybe. Some of those are almost certainly repeat views, and where I went back to edit things. I don't even expect "Ghosts of Gods" to get as many as "Sun Eater" did. This website and this fandom are too saturated, these days, and what I'm presenting is too esoteric and off-base from what most people come here to find. All I want is to know that I finished this to my own satisfaction.
Still, if you do read it, I hope you enjoy it.
I know I had a blast writing it.

I think you should go for it.
