Question to Readers · 2:37pm Aug 30th, 2013
Anyone think I should still keep writing Beyond the Mirror Pool? I am currently working on Chapter 7, sorry it's taking so long, but I don't know if I should finish up the story quickly. I want this story to be great, but I'm not that good. So should I stop writing it and get practice or continue until the end?

write the story you want to read.
include the things in your story that you like in stories.
think about all the stories/movies/games/comics/nutrition labels and why you like them. what drew you to love that particular story so?
imbue your story with things that interest you.
all art is inherently selfish. you must be selfish. stop worrying about what we think of your story. we are dumb, skewed and biased. make your story meet your standards. don't conform to any identity, way of thinking or methodology (100% aware of the irony). don't mimic other story structures or the ways of other artists. if i wanted to read a stephen king like novel, i'd read a stephen king novel. make me interested in you, make me want to read a sin kurtiz story.
understand how your story will begin and end. decide those first. then fill in the middle. leave your story room to grow organically. don't force anything in. if your best idea won't fit in the story you're writing, throw it out. save it for something else.
think about all the contingencies you can. make your plot as cohesive and self-contained as possible. formulate rules for your universe and stick to them, your audience will subconsciously accept them outright.
never, never, never try to force an idea or thought onto your audience. as you write, you'll start to have ideas on what you want things and events to mean to people. stop that, you can't control what we think. if you try to force and idea or moral onto a person, our nature will compel us to move against it. if your moral or idea is so important, force onto a character. you can completely control them.
stop looking to us for direction. we are the internet. we are mean, misinformed and stupid. stop expecting us to care, stop expecting us to love and most of all, stop expecting your work to become the greatest thing in the history of time and creation. don't sweat it, don't pressure yourself. just do. do something, do anything.
