    I'm the worst :D

    I know! Terrible.

Just popping in for my periodic State of the Dancer, you know how I do.

Previously, I was lamenting my lack of free time due to the whole working full time and having my smol child. I decided to add to that by rebooting the soap business.

    Oh hey

Wow, been a hot minute, eh?

I've missed this site. Last year, I went through Some Shit over the summer and fall, and then I got engaged in November to a very nice man.

We get married in five days, and I had noticed a lot of registry gifts coming in all of a sudden with real names attached that I did not recognize.

If you paid attention... · 6:28pm Aug 25th, 2013

A thread in The Writer's Group reminded me of something that has been annoying the shit out of me.

Payed.

Why do otherwise great authors say "he payed his bills and then went to bed"?

Stop that shit. Y'all should know better.

In the vast, vast majority of cases, the past tense/past participle of 'pay' is paid. Not 'payed'. The only time you can use either is when you're using the form of 'pay' that means 'to slacken'.

So, if you're referring to money or time (the most common uses), it's 'paid'.

If you're referring to letting out rope (or hell, hair or giant penises or something, I know you fuckers can get creative), it's either 'paid' or 'payed'.

"She paid three bits for three apples."

"She paid close attention to her teacher."

"He paid a visit to his ailing aunt."

"Realizing it was a lost cause, the deckhand payed out the rope, watching it slip fully into the turbulent waters."

Fluttershy paid Cherry Berry for a balloon ride she never took.

Lyra had payed out her fishing line, and it paid off.

(Yes, Dancer is cranky this week. Enjoy.)

Dare I ask why so many rant-like blogs?

~Skeeter The Lurker

1307639 Because I'm cranky this week. I'm sure we'll be back to our regularly scheduled bullshit about penises and >context before long.

Mmmkay. Just wondering.

~Skeeter The Lurker

I had my computer read this to me, so i can here no difference between payed and paid. Do you no what i mean.

yes. i used the wrong type of know. lol

1307646 There is no audible difference. They're homophones.

1307641
Oh please no, I prefer the cranky rants! More provocative conversations!

Also...the payed annoys me. More though I hate amd instead of and, that's an iPad! Stupid machines I swear. I use one so I know!

1307653 I know just trying to bug some people. I get that way too, just never about reading. Science is the thing that i'm like that for. :flutterrage:Spirit Science, i will dis-prove you at every turn!:flutterrage:

1307673 I also use an iPad, and oddly enough, you are indeed still able to reread your own work and make corrections where necessary before posting it.

I usually do cranky rants from time to time, this is just a bad week. It's not even at anyone in particular, it's more of a 'you know what really grinds my gears?' segment.

I should make one from a screenshot and sub my OC.

True, a ranting over issues on the site. Oh and I'm lazy with editing, that irritating pinpointing the single wrong letter with finger scrolling is slower for me than if I use a computer.

I payed my bills earlyer

Your nut teh buss of meh, I grammer hw i wunt.

I wasn't even aware that a usage for "payed" even existed, actually; I was always under the assumption it was grammatically incorrect no matter where I put it. :applejackunsure: Huh. Learn something new every day, I suppose.

Also, the fact that some people can't differentiate between those words is fairly... disheartening. Then again, we are talking about "grammar on the internet" here, so how can I even be surprised by this? :facehoof:
