So, I'm not confirming or denying anything for future plans for Wanderings and/or other TD stories, but anybody who keeps up with my perspective on TD knows that if I was forced at gunpoint to ship him with somebody I would have an answer.
Would you read that? I know that a previous blog post asking about you guys and TD had you saying things like "all the TD fics please" so I know you like the guy. It's just that TD's possible impending marriage to a Griffonian princess (Sheesh, I never thought that I'd go that direction when I first created the character) made me wonder how you guys would react if I gave him a love interest.
Now, here are a few things that would mean.
1. I would make it an actual relationship. It wouldn't be a fairy tale.
2. Nothing physical. TD is not, nor will he ever be, physically interested in females of a species other than human. On that note, I as an author am never going to write clop in general. If TD ever has sex with a pony, it will be in a story neither written nor endorsed by me.
3. You can love somebody, find them beautiful, be attracted to their personality, and be physically uninterested. If TD ever dates/marries a pony that will be his stance. No clop. No sex. I cannot stress this enough. Not even offscreen. Not even implied.
So yeah, I'm not confirming or denying that I want to write a story (canon or side) in which TD actually gets a date, but what would you guys think about that, keeping in mind that I would do my best to keep it fresh, original, well-written, and in character.
With that, I'm curious who you think would go well with him. I have my answer, but what do you think?

1. Sounds good.
2. I don't have any issues with this. I would point out that in the real world that there are some asexuals who don't mind having sex for the sake of their partner, and I think it could at least be mentioned, even if you have TD decide not to explore that option. And I fully respect there are some things you're not prepared to write about; write what you want, not what anyone wants you to write (uh, unless you want to write what someone wants you to write).
3. We've already discussed this, so you should know my stance!

Yeah man, if done well, a non physical romance can still carry the same emotional impact as one in which they fuck non-stop.
I would definitely read that, as I'm sure it would be just as good as everything else you do.
I trust you to do keep him true to his character. And while he may find an "interest" I personally feel that his want to get home and his pure lack of physical attraction to another species would make him probably think on it for a moment, then pass the idea up, forcing himself to try and become completely disinterested. Depending how much of a common bond the two would have perhaps he wouldn't be able to fight it, or perhaps he wouldn't give in and maybe even do all he can to make the character forget about him, but I don't think anything even partially lasting would work. I think, from what I have seen, a friendship, maybe even a fairly strong one, is about as far as TD would go.
I think you sort of already did that with The Incredibly Interesting Date With the Non-Winning Human or whatever it's called. Are you doing a separate story?
Do you have anypony in mind, or can we suggest?
I have an urge to figure out how to hack the site and make you write a horrible OOC-red-and-black-Mary-Sue-alicorn-that-has-sex-with-TD story.

Lyra: Despite being somewhat cured over humans she still could be interested and simply get to know T.D and learn what he knows.

You do a good job keeping TD in character. It's one of the reasons he's so enjoyable. I'd be okay with this along as he stayed in character. It's very hard for me to see TD being okay with the idea of romancing something not human. But you're the writer, not me. Your have quite a bit of talent at writing, I'm sure you'll do fine. I'm sure you'd wouldn't do it if you didn't think it was a good idea.

Just dont go shipping on us. Without physical attraction, a relationship could never work, no matter how much they like eachother. Plus, TD dosnt really seem like the romantic type. If you try to ship, it would probally feel forced and not make for an enjoyable read.
I too would read it, as I find TD an extremely interesting character. As for the shipping, Cheerilee comes to mind immediately, though I'm not sure who would be the best choice. Keep up the good work!
Romantic relations without physical interaction are equal to masturbation. I do not trust in such relations. Therefore I consider that while ТД will not adjoin numbers xenophiles (in all senses) normal-proved shipping is impossible. It is possible in the story where ТД became a;icorn, but not in other stories, since ТД - alter ego of the author.
I think that's one I'll sit out on.

I think its worth a shot. If you need help writing something like that, ask Distorted Flare since he tends to write stories like that.
Since you already wrote a spinoff where Discord uses TD, I can honestly see him finding a possible relationship with the Griffonia Princess.

As a reader of TD and an immense fan of the character, I would like to address your points with my points.
1. I would expect nothing less.
2. Ah, the reason I'm here. Is 'nothing physical' meant to be taken literally, or as a euphemism for general sexy time shenanegins? Because I find it difficult to picture a romance that doesn't include TOTALLY CHASTE intimate NON-SEXUAL touching. Capslocked of course because no-one ever thinks of the innocent use of the word intimate.
3. I approve of this stance. As you said, it isn't in TD's character.
And on that note I now want this so bad.

Also, as a point of random thought in my head: If you wrote a novel featuring TD (Sans ponies of course) I would both buy it and probably reccomend it to everyone I know.

Condition 2 turns me off to the idea. It's not that I want to see TD fuck a pony, but I just can't see the relationship working or being realistic with that condition in place unless they were both asexual. What you're describing above is a real close platonic relationship.
What would make an interesting story would be TD and this mysterious pony that you would ship him with at gunpoint is to see their friendship blossom and grow with feelings going further with the pony, but TD not returning them. Que all the drama and feels from said situation and then I suppose you can rap it up however you want to.

I'd disagree: as I'm sure several people in the real world would be happy to tell you, it is perfectly possible to be in a romantic relationship without sex. You'd have to talk to such people to get their individual views, but from accounts I've personally read there are people who have a romantic attraction to their partner, and who desire, value, and treat them in the same way as others would treat a romantic partner save for a lack of sexual attraction. Some even have sex with their partner simply because the other one values it.
And obviously people can bonk the other without the slightest bit of romance from anyone, so defining love entirely around such a narrow behaviour does not seem wise, and to me appears pretty arbitrary.
There is some slight variation depending on how one chooses to define the term, since love itself is not the easiest thing to define (strictly speaking, based on some definitions of romantic love one could argue that any friendship is romantic love when this isn't the intent and many including myself would differentiate between them), but I think most would say that a platonic relationship is governed by a lack of romantic affection, either because of a lack of romantic interest by at least one party, or because the relationship is 'above' such things.
Platonic can also be used to indicate that a bond is extremely strong, yet non-romantic since one would usually imagine a romantic bond to be stronger than mere friendship.
Of course, whether you find such a relationship realistic and makes for a believable story is up to you (insofar as you get to choose any of your beliefs).
(Oh and look up definitions of this stuff. It's amazing just how vague these descriptions are, and how difficult it seems to be to pin a definition down.)

In my opinion, romance doesn't belong too much in the TDverse. I mean, so much has been stressed on the fact that he wants to return home, and that he's kind of a rebel (he punched Celestia in the face, is sarcastic, etc.) that romance just seems kind of off. A close friend that he's comfortable with would be okay, but anything above light (non-serious) girlfriend/forced relationship would be too much in my opinion.

While Cheerilee is the obvious choice, I honestly think Cloud Kicker would be the most interesting possibility because of how physical she tends to be so a totally non-sexual (although some physical contact is going to happen) relationship with TD would be an interesting way to take her out of her comfort zone. She is also seems to get along well with TD and their sense of humor play off each other beautifully so I think they could definitely build a strong relationship of some form, although the specifics are very much up in the air.

Agreed. Besides, specially after reading "The Study of a Winning Pony " last chapters, I´m curious about how Cloud Kicker´s reactions. She is the archetypical "Ethical Slut", and I agree with Twilight her lust probably hides a fear to the ultimate compromise.
Still, I think "off-screen or implied" at the end could be added without causing any damage, once the emotional conflict has been treated properly...

I'd imagine the story/chapter where he canonically goes into a relationship to be comprised of the following sentence:
For human TD? Cheerlie, Vinyl or Octavia, he is very considered and nice with kids so I can picture those 2 having a platonic relationship with them until/if you decided to change the rules.
For Princess TD, I don't know but I'm sure it will be female, he had stated more than enough with his sexual orientation and change body will not change that, even if he now has hormones urges and such, change sex doesn't mean change orientation. Besides, he said he want to rule and be close with her subjects, why not have a lesbian ruler? I think it will be interesting, funny and ironic, that he simultaneously is and is not gay. Princess of sarcasm and snark…so why not? And as for who? I think it could be Shy for him, because from all shy is the only one that has doing nothing to him, but I don't know from Shy to him.
