Well, I went to Bronycon.
I got a ton of autographs, and If you're wondering whose I got, just look at the guest list. If he or she is on there, I got it, the one exception being G.M. Berrow, who was not present during the times I was able to go autograph hounding. I got some cool swag, to boot, including an original Andy Price sketch of Wheat Grass from the Rarity Micro Series.
Of course, I also went to some panels, heard some musicians at Bronypalooza; the whole deal.
Bottom line, I was actually encouraged to keep at my writing, and finish this current installment of "The Sun Eater."
I have two possible directions the plot could take that I'm weighing, right now, and even though I expect this one to run a little longer than the previous book, I very much expect that it's going to be written fairly quickly. I am also certain that it will be the last installment in this continuity, especially if I take a particular one of those two options I mentioned above.
I may be going back to my previous work to do a smidgen of editing; mostly in that I will be changing the name "Shimmershine" to something else. It bothers me that it shares half its syllabic makeup with "Sunset Shimmer," and before that, it bothered me that the first song in "Magical Mystery Cure" began with the lines "Morning in Ponyville shimmers. Morning in Ponyville shines."
One big thing that I have to say I took away from Bronycon was this: This fandom is huge. For me to hold out a lot of wild aspirations of being "something" in a community this size would just be a pipe dream, so I really am just doing this for myself, at this point. Hell, I'm not even sure what it means to be "something" in this community. In the end, we're really all just people who like a cartoon show. I want to finish this continuity because I want to see where it ends up. After that, I may never write fanfiction again. I do plan to actively try to run around some forums and so forth and actively promote what I've done, just to let it have a chance to meander out into Bronydom, and be what it can be. However, if all I get for that is a few dozen more views, and find myself otherwise dismissed by the fandom, then "oh, well." It's a lot of people who are into something much bigger than me, and I can't presume to inflict myself on them.
For those of you who want to know a little about what's coming, it's called "The Sun Eater: Ghosts of Gods."
The essential premise of it is that "The Sun Eater" happened, with all comic arcs and such being removed requisite to the simple fact that it was written before they were published, and therefore they simply conflict too much; a hazard of writing in someone else's universe, I suppose. That's okay, though, because my continuity is so different from Hasbro-Faustian Equestria, that many events must necessarily take place differently within it. At any rate, after the events depicted in "The Sun Eater," and after the events depicted in Season 3 of the television series -- including Twilight's ascendance -- the events depicted in "Equestria Girls" did, in fact, take place in my continuity -- after a fashion, the primary difference being that Twilight Sparkle failed in her mission to return her Element of Harmony to Equestria.
The events depicted in "The Sun Eater: Ghosts of Gods" will take place some years after that incident, and so far, it doesn't look like they're going to be very pretty. Keep on the lookout for updates. I haven't yet decided whether I want to post this one in one big installment or chapter-by-chapter. I'll keep you posted on that.
At least I'm going to get this thing done.
Thanks for reading.
