What I do and don't like to see in fim fan fics.

As I have recently started commenting on stories and voicing my opinions I have decided to place something here for you to read!
All of the following are my opinions and should not be taken as law, some of them are probably even wrong as I am not a author myself, nor do I have any intention of becoming one.

What I do and don't like to see in a story!
Most of the information on creating a good story can be found in most textbooks but I do strongly recommend reading the writing and posting guides by Wanderer D and the writing guide by ezn.

One thing that does wind me up is the tendency for some users to break their story into a large number of chapters that have <500 words, I prefer to see chapters to have a size of about approximately 1500-10,000 words. To every rule there are exemptions (even if these are not technically rules) and there are some good micro chapter stories. Remember I have been talking about chapter sizes NOT story sizes. If you are having problems of meeting your personal target for the size of a chapter, try setting a larger target! you are probably always missing the target by the same amount!

Don't expect me to read your generic HiE style story, the few I have read have been on the verge of getting the red thumbs down. To date there has only been one that I have truly enjoyed.

I am happy to read stories with content that is nsfw but it does not make hitting the green thumb or the star more likely, in fact it is the opposite.

Try to make us the reader feel the emotions of the story (I know this is probably covered in the writing guides you most likely didn't read). Simply telling us that x is sad will not make us sad, also we can feel a large range of different feelings if you do it right.

Links in the story, when done right (link to some select music on youtube) they can help immerse the reader, but when done wrong (Wiki link to explain an 'inside joke') can break the story. If you are placing music links don't add to many as opening any kind of link is taking your readers focus away from what you have written. Be careful about what music you use as many readers will not like your choice of song to try to keep it relevant to the story.

Wall of text, I am guilty of this one in this post, but try to avoid the illusion of a wall of text.

One of the biggest sins (in my opinion) that I see a lot of is the "My first story." in the description box in an attempt to get gentler reviews.

tldr: Read the two pages of guides that I linked.
