    50 Questions Thing

So, I saw this on one of JakeTheArmyGuy's blog, and wanted to do it. It looks uber fun, so let's do this! :)

    1. Are you male or female: Female.

    2. In all honesty, what kind of pony would you be: Probably a Pegasus. Outgoing at times, quick and witty.

    3. What would your cutie mark be: Anything art related.

    4. Where in Equestria would you live: I'd like to live in Cloudsdale.

    I...

This new episode.... this... oh my god.

Sadly, next week is a break from pone. For production reasons, I guess. :(

The finale synopsis seems amazing, though. I can't wait to see what the MLP staff cook up for that one.

    Ciao!

So, a while ago I submitted My Little Pony: Foalsitting Your Friends is Magic to Equestria Daily, and they came back with an email saying they couldn't post it on the site.

Apparently they had problems with, mostly, the comedy. As well as the long strings of dialogue, blood (when Rarity accidentally cuts herself on the glass), and the booze. There was also a ton more they had problems with, but I wouldn't take the time to list everything.

I really hate that they have so many nitpicks. I mean, sure, they want to keep all the stories safe from distinct viewers, but, really?

You know, I've never really been happy with my stories. Some, I have. And I do have self-conscious issues, but yes, I can take constructive criticism and all that. But this just tore me apart.

To all authors who have submitted to EqD and have gotten their story declined: now I know how you feel.

I'm sorry for the rant. This was probably entirely inappropriate, but I just needed to vent. I'll try next time.

just remember that you have fans hear who enjoy your stories.

It's a joke really.

They try to act like they're professionals, but they really aren't. I highly doubt any of the prereaders there actually are employed as legit editors.

EQD sucks. Sorry, it is useful for gathering news but not stories IMO. I've said it many times before but don't be discouraged. Why care about getting your story on a site that only cares about elitist things?

I don't know why, but I think your stories are fine. Due to this blog, I now know for a fact that mine wouldn't pass!
But I don't need them, and neither do you! Remember that, Carni. You got me!

1255974 That's true. I guess I haven't looked into it that much. :facehoof:

1255987 Oh, thank you so much :rainbowkiss:

Let's kick their ass together. :flutterrage: :raritywink:

1255967 Thank you so much. I love hearing that.

Yeah its a kind of stupid site. The organization system on that site is awful. 1256059

1256059 So? It's fine the way it is! And if EQD doesn't like it, well they can go fuck off.

~theviciouskiller

1255968 I think they really need to get it together.

1256070 Yes. Yes they can. I think all stories should have a chance on that site. But if they want to be unprofessional about it, then that's what they want to do. :ajbemused:

Oh no you don't. Equestria Daliy, the fallic-measuring stick of pony fandom. Rrrright.

Look at Steel Resolve, his EqD efforts with Green cost him a lot of nerves, the story it's spirit (because right now it feels like he's struggling to go on simply for the sake of it), and in result got nothing, far as I know it's not even over yet. So... No. Don't. 'Sides, with the restrictions they use the fun stuff is never on there anyway, so why bother?

1256277 Actually the problem I am having with Green is less to do with EQD and more to do with the Twinkie storyline. I'd be wrong if I said a story does not affect my mood, and those two are really depressed right now.

Carnivale, I am not going to badmouth EQD to you. They are a group of people with some high ideals about what a story should be, grammatically, thematically, and structurally. If they say you need to clean up your grammar, that's easy. But when they start saying they dislike how the story is written... well there won't be a way to win there.

Each of the prereaders has their own taste, and as of right now, they don't have rules in place for uniformity. Green has been through 3 strikes and is on a 4th (my second prereader loved the story so much I was granted a foul ball) and as best I can figure 2 of them read maybe the prologue before they gave up. In an organization that is allowed to vet or fail you based on if they are bored... you may just need to take your ball and go home.

From what I hear they are working on ways to be more uniform in their reviews, and that will hopefully make the process smoother for authors and mean better stories get there.

you know, a simple way to fix all of the problems with the EQD story posting thingie whatever, would be for them to just put a warning/disclaimer on stories that might offend or not be appropriate for certain people.

Not that your story is inappropriate. well....maybe by 4Kids standards, BUT BLOOD!? REALLY!?! Don't they advertise Hard Reset on that site!?:twilightangry2:

Ugh....well, it seems like you just got one of the Asshole-readers, SOME of the pre-readers are actually GOOD at their 'job', but the majority are just dicks to new writers (new to them i mean).:pinkiesad2:

............Ya know, Maybe the pre-readers and the 'Art-inspectors' should trade jobs for a week or two, maybe they'll be more fair:derpytongue2:

1256694 I know that they are in charge of if the story is able to be submitted or not, and if they didn't like the story, than that's fine. I guess since this is my first time, I just got a little upset.
I guess I'll try next time, now that I have a good idea of the standards, granted I get the same pre-reader again. :/

1257655 Good luck, and try not to get too discouraged. You might just get lucky this time.

1257677 Thank you. I do hope so

1256694 I'm genuinly suprised you stumbled upon this within 4 hours :P

That said, I do believe my point on gains vs losses stand. In the end it does not matter, whether or not 'people with high standards' like you. Especially not with them maintaining strict Pegi-10 level content selection, additionally based on... I don't know, SOME idea on how the story should look like. And this will not change with uniform standards, if they are misguided, and they most likely will be. Might as well generate a script to write stories for them, then.

1258357 :rainbowlaugh: In fairness, Carnivale tossed me a follow, when someone does that I tend to check their profile and noticed his blog. Otherwise I would have never seen it in all likelihood. And you might be right. Beyond learning what an emdash is and how its used, I really have learned very little in how to make a story better. Actually, were it not for working with a prereader directly... I would have learned nothing beyond punctuation. They are not there to teach you how to write, but when you have one actually directly go over your story point by point they do have some relevant things to say. The trouble is they don't have time to do that with every story.

1258524 Oh, so I actually gave you some publicity :3 Sweet. Not that you need it, but still.
