GET TO KNOW ME Q/A! · 12:25am Jul 31st, 2013
Hey guys, I have noticed other authors on the site doing this, and I thought it was a pretty cool idea. What I am doing, as the title suggests, is giving you, the readers, a chance to get to know good ol' me. Now, I hope you all can discern what would be considered an appropriate question, first of all. Other than that, have fun with this! This your chance to finally know me as someone other than an anonymous contributor. Please, comment your questions below, I await your response.
What makes you feel the most accomplished? As a beginning writer I have been struggling with doubts what helps you feel like you're actually doing something?
1250571 Honestly, what makes me feel accomplished is the feedback I get for my stories. Seeing that I had made such an impact that people are actually starting whole discussions over my stories just makes what I am doing worth while. Now, the magnitude or amount of feedback does not matter, it only matters that you made a difference, however small or large, in someone's life.
Have you finish to rewrite "Gateway to Harmony" and continue "Take to the Skies" ?
I love these stories.
1250599 I have planned out the next chapter for Take to the Skies, but concerning Gateway to Harmony, it is not looking good. I am not saying it is going to be cancelled, I am only lacking a proper drive to continue it. Also, all together, I have just been on a slump with writing. I have the plans for chapters, it is just connecting the dots that is the problem. I will have the next chapter for Take to the Skies written soon, as for Gateway to Harmony, I have not idea. I am sorry, but all we can do is wait and see on that one.
Simple question... Why do you write?
Also, what's your favourite fanfic (and author)? And what's your favourite non-fanfic book (and author)? And if you have the time... Why are they your favourites?
1251005 To answer your first question, I write because I love the idea of having the ability to literally create your own personal world. To have a place where you have total control over the events and timelines that occur. I like 'being the boss' in a sense, because we live in a world where we really have virtually zero control, or even influence, over most things. Here, in my story, my world, it's just me, and there are no worries.
My favorite fan-fiction that I have read on this site would have to be Diaries of a Madman by whatmustido. There are many reasons as to why this story is my favorite, but I will simply give you the most profound reason. That reason being it has some of the best character development I have seen in my time here. Not only with the MC, but also the characters of the original universe. Starting with the MC, 'Navarone', he is a fascinating character, with many traits, who seems to be in constant battle with his subconscious over who he should be as a person. He seems like a plain and monotone individual on the outside, but just has this constant chaotic battle occurring in his mind, fighting for control to deem what is right and wrong. For characters like the 'Mane 6', he took the personalities given by the show, and built on them even further, giving more interesting, and believable traits. He dared to mold these already well balanced characters into something more. This is something that others have tried to do, yes. But in most cases the characters end up becoming too OOC to be considered the same pony anymore, just some different thing all together, sharing nothing in common with the original other then his/her name. But whatmustido just drove it home with this. And that also answers that second question, who is my favorite author, because that title goes to whatmustido.
My favorite novel would have to be one of the classics, All Quiet on the Western Front. Once again there are many reasons as to why I like this story, but, again, I will stick to one. And this time, I will make it short, and simple. I was mesmerized by the opportunity to truly read a first hand account of what it was like for the 'other side'. To observe the enemy through the words of another. The people in this story were part of a race, or generation rather, that we were taught to hate by history. But this story makes you sympathize for them. Seeing that they suffered too, that some of them were just like us: innocent souls being thrown into the black abyss of war. I like this story because it turns the tables, showing us that there is innocence no matter what side you are on, that is sacrificed for the benefit of a small percent of the people. And that is the main reason why I enjoyed that story.
To answer the question of who my favorite non-fan-fiction author is, that would have to be Jules Vern. The reason why is that this brilliant man was able to accurately predict more than a century of technological advancement. Vern, a man born in a time where the railroad was still considered a technological marvel, wrote of submarines, airships, and cars. In one story, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea , he even hints at nuclear power. And in that story's sequel it talks about using water as a fuel source. This matches perfectly with the idea of hydrogen fuel cells, which we are only now starting to develop. In one story, a personal favorite of mine, that actually was one of the lesser received of his novels, Paris in the 20th Century , he even describes a network matching the description of the internet! All this, from the mind of an 18th century man. And that is why he is my favorite, because he was a prophet, and a genius.
I really hope you found my answer adequate. I had much fun answering this one, it made me think. Well, thank you for your question and have a nice day, or night, depending on which part of the world you are in.
-Robert out.
1251209 Oh yes, that was very informative. It's always great to learn about another author.
I got a question. What are your future plans? Are you gonna become a professional author and write your own series of books? You certainly have a knack for writing.
1253983 No, I honestly do not see myself becoming a professional author anytime soon . But thank you for the compliment, I'm flattered . Actually, what I plan on doing as a career is working as an avionics engineer for Sikorsky. After my 10 year service in the Air Force is up, if I AM accepted into the Air Force academy. Which I hopefully will be. Wish me luck, and thank you for the question.
1254111 Ah, so your gonna go into the Air Force Academy? Well good luck to that. And an engineer? Damn, well good luck with that. I hear being an engineer is hard work and stressful. But as the saying goes. "If you like what you do, you'll never have to work a day in your life." So again, good luck
PS: This may appear as a stupid question so forgive me, but my military knowledge is little to none but, Do you have to go into the Air Force Academy to be a avionics engineer?
1254171 No, learning to become an avionics engineer is not a program exclusive to the Air Force academy.
