    Bronycon Part 3

I'm going again! I didn't think to ask the community for rides this time, so I'm going to take my first Greyhound bus trip over there and back. So this post is for people who'll be at the con already and want to do something with me. I had a lot of fun last time with Present Perfect (who can't make it this year), Stonershy, and all of the other big shots in the writing community (of which I am

A Story I Have to Spotlight

I don't normally read fanfiction outside of the realm of My Little Pony. For me, getting into fanfiction entails being familiar with the base setting and wanting something from it that the story just isn't providing on its own. For pony stories, this meant more content when I ran out of episodes, as well as a wider variety of story types than is present on the show, though by now I'm involved

    Doing More Things

I've done basically nothing to contribute to this site since I reposted my Immortal Game reviews here. I thought I'd fix that, without needlessly apologizing. You can't see the results just yet, but I just completed a revision/expansion of my writeoff-winning story, Final Resting Place. Once it gets edited or pre-read, I'll put it up and finally qualify as a horse writer again.

Solitair Reads The Immortal Game: Epilogue

Before I started writing this post, I decided to read all of the blog entries that AestheticB made on fimfiction.net, the site where I read his big story in the first place. In his most recent entry, he explained that the reason it took so long to write an epilogue is because he got conflicting expectations of what the epilogue should be and he didn’t know what to put down. In the end, he decided

Seraphem's Analysis of Fallout Equestria · 9:44am Jul 21st, 2013

Kay, I'm going to signal boost for one of my new best friends in the fandom. Seraphem is my de facto creative consultant for my planned Fallout Equestria stories, and he's written up a chapter-by-chapter evaluation. I've only just started reading the evaluation, but from what I've seen it's intelligent and planned-out, focused on character motivations and an explanation of how the story works and why it works well. It also appears to be a mostly positive evaluation coming from someone who deeply treasures the story.

I hope for it to be a good counter-balance to a liveblogging of the story by Present Perfect, no doubt a more influential name in the fandom. PP's ultimate conclusion of the fic was mixed, often written in a negative tone (because being negative on the internet is fun and cool) but with the reluctant admission that he liked the story more often than disliked it. Most of what he says about the story is fair and I find myself agreeing with it, though my friends have written it off as a matter of opinion. As long as I can learn from (what some people see as) Kkat's mistakes, not much else matters. PP's assertion that "Kkat thinks the show is grimdark," however, is something I have a problem with. He seems to be implying that Kkat thinks that it's only natural that ponies will do horrible, repulsive, gory stuff to each other and that the show is only sanitizing it for the sake of the child audience, but I think the actual case is that Kkat has made the story shades darker to create a better contrast with the heroism and hope that fits MLP like a glove. Kkat says that a harsher struggle means a sweeter victory, which I'd have thought PP might appreciate since he has complained about how easily every single villain in the show was vanquished or neutered. I'm agreeing with Kkat on this point wholeheartedly, even if her romances leave much to be desired.

But enough about that. I like Seraphem and I think his stuff is worth reading.

I'm not that great at keeping this thing updated. What should I talk about? Should I make a habit of it? Should I talk about stuff that has nothing to do with ponies? SO MANY DECISIONS :twilightoops:

I do actually think that it's kind of sad that I say that Seraphem is my creative consultant for the FoE stories I have planned, and I've only actually started writing Song of the Wasteland a whole year after this post.
