RIP Buckley 2001 - 2013 · 2:11am Jul 17th, 2013
Today my mom and I had to take our boxer, Buckley to the vet to be put to sleep. When she got up this morning, he had bled a lot in our house and we couldn't tell where it was coming from. At 12 years old, he was well past the life expectancy for his breed. The vet saw that he had a cancerous tumor on his gums that had most likely spread around the inside of his digestive track (and it's where the blood was coming from). Mom stayed with him to be put to sleep, while I stayed in the waiting room. I heard my mom crying in the room, and I went in to check on her and saw Buckley now lifeless on the floor; he looked peaceful. This was the first time I'd ever accompanied someone to put an animal to sleep. He wasn't a perfect dog, and could at times be a real pain to deal with (that's family for you). But, overall he was a very good dog, would never hurt anyone and the most trouble he ever really caused was knocking over trash cans from time to time. He was one of our oldest pets, and will be missed. Sometime this week, we're going to have a little memorial service, where we'll put some things of his in a box and bury it in our yard. I felt that writing this would help me to vent out my feelings, because I'm not always great at expressing them.
My condolences on the loss of a loved pet.
1215782 Thanks, it's never easy.
I know how it feels to have a boxer for that long, and have to put it down. I'm so sorry for you.
1215878 Thanks
I"m sorry. It's never easy when you lose a part of the family like that.
1215928 Indeed
I know exactly how you feel dude. We had a couple of Border Terrier pups a few years ago,

(That's Mork on the right and Mindy on the left, brother and sister.), but we lost them a six months old. They got a disease called Canine Epilitoid Cramping Syndrome, but it doesn't normally show till around six to eight years in the breed. Our vet was researching it at the time, as it was relatively unknown. Then on the next weekend Mindy started to get worse, so my dad used my car to drive us to an emergency vets. She finally slipped away in my arms half way there. A few days later Mork started to get bad with it, and we didn't want him to suffer the same way, so had him put to sleep. It was the kindest thing to do.
I think I broke my hand punching a wall in anger. I keep their collars in my pockets when not in uniform. So like I say, I know how you feel, and I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. Pets are more than that, they are part of the family. Now we've got two little shitbag Jack Russell Terriers, and even though they didn't replace our pups, they certainly filled the holes in our hearts.
1216150 Thanks, dude, sorry for you loss as well.
1216157 It was a couple of years ago dude, so I've got over it... mostly. I will admit, I still get teary thinking about it, but by keeping their collars close, I know in some way they are still with me.
Damn, 0625 is too early to start getting emotional. I'm gonna shoot people on MW3 to offset it.
1216161 Either way, I'm the kinda guy who'll say sorry no matter how long ago it was.
When ya pets' part of ya family, it's never easy losing them. We had to put our German Shepherds to sleep because of the hip problem their breed gets, I never got over losing either of them.
I'm so sorry for you now I'm crying!
1216389>>1217699 Thanks for the comments
I... regrettably have nothing to say. However, I am sorry for your loss. It is always sad to lose a close friend or loved one. That pain, I know all too well. Again, my sorrow goes out to you, and I wish you strong resolve in the weeks to come.
1219189 You don't have to say anything, thanks for the condolences dude.

Tis' my pleasure. I feel obligated to acknowlage the loss of others, and your instance is no different. I'm sure your canine companion rests his weary soul in a greater plain, waiting diligently for his master... I'm sure of it.
I am terribly sorry that I reignited this memory for you when you looked at my latest story
1219705 Oh no, don't be sorry. I'd be thinking about it regardless since it only happened a few days ago.
1218019 the same thing happened to me with my dog kia
