Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

    The good times are over.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Horse Play

So hey, it's a new episode. Surely nothing to be excited about. Just another standard episode of a cartoon pony show.

    Only it's a CELESTIA EPISODE!

Prepare for extra spicy biased scoring as we look at Best Princess' newest episode, “Horse Play!”

Notes on Chapter 16 and Chapter 17 Update · 9:46pm Apr 1st, 2012

Well, we're almost done. One chapter to go.

Hard to believe this thing's taken so long, is it? I can remember being so happy when Equestria Daily posted the first three chapters all the way back in early September 2011. Then Chapter 4 went up literally the day before the season premiere. And Chapter Five was up just before Luna Eclipsed. And so on and so forth. Heck, of the people that stopped reading, I wouldn't be surprised if half of them quit because I was taking too long with each update. Heck, it took a MONTH to post Chapter 11, and that's not one I'm totally satisfied with.

As for Chapter 17, it will take a bit longer than 15 and 16 did. I'm losing Internet access for a few days this week, I'm pulling full shifts at work every other day, and I won't really be able to write again until after Easter. If all goes well, though, I should have it up the week of the finale. That will officially make this the fanfic that TOOK A WHOLE SEASON TO FINISH.

And with that out of the way, Chapter 16 time. SPOILERS, and all that.

I went through a lot of different ways for Luna and Celestia to patch up their differences, but the one I settled with seemed to work the best. It means Luna won't lose the close contact with her subjects, and Celestia will no longer be ostracizing her sister from society, albeit unwittingly. It also gives Celestia the chance to experience what her sister goes through in her own court, and most likely learn to appreciate some of the harder parts of co-rulership.

Two things I was NOT happy about were Celestia's bit with Lofty and Blueblood's stuff.

The biggest thing holding me back from building up Celestia and Lofty more was the dread that comes with friendshipping a major character with an OC. No matter what you do, someone out there will call it a Self-Insert or Mary Sue. That, and she got added later because of (again) Kuchen. This meant she really didn't have a lot of time to develop any sort of character other than "generic friend." The scene where she and Celestia "break up" wasn't handled as well as it should have been, but otherwise there weren't any major changes to her role in this chapter.

Now Blueblood...hoo boy. Blueblood would have had a larger role in the fic had Kuchen not come along. He was the original Big Bad, hatching an evil plot to overthrow the entire government because of his quest for revenge against a few ponies. However, the story went through a lot of simplification once it lost its importance:

1) Blueblood would have discovered Celestia's secret far earlier. Rather than kidnap her, however, he would begin investigating the mystery himself. His spies would then discover the Arcanus E Draconus and the pictures, and he would realize the truth: Twilight Sparkle turned her mentor into a filly and was playing both sides. Yes, Blueblood was a moron in all versions of the story. His reason for not suspecting Luna was because she was Celestia's sister, and sisters that loved each other would not do things like this to each other. Luna would not take this very well.

2) Blueblood would have been defeated after he dragged everyone outside in a big brawl, revealing Celestia's curse to all of Canterlot. However, Celestia, Luna and Twilight would twist the evidence so that BLUEBLOOD was framed as the guilty party. Celestia would then show her benevolence by bestowing a wreath of Poison Joke to her nephew.

There were more, but giving away too much would spoil the next chapter.

Oh, and the Royal Porn Collection? Let's just say Twilight's condition will tie in to her punishment...

See y'all next time!

Wonder what Twilight's punshiment is.

Royal porn collection

I feel I missed something.

Also congratulation!
I rememeber reading the first 5 chapters. I'm glad you were able to make everything work, though I'm sad to see its ending.

If you don't mind sharing, what are your plans for the future?
Please say sequel :pinkiehappy:

Princess Celestia sends Twilight to live with her parents until she's cured. I BET YOU ALL 5 BITS :rainbowdetermined2:.

Other than that.... MY World is ending in two weeks... or when ever the final for MLP and the last chapter for this is... and yet it can't end soon enough.

The wait for both the final and this will be THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING *cue drama couch*

:twilightblush::duck:

Don't worry about time. It's worth the wait for Fan Fiction of this quality.

Punishment? What did Twi do wrong? :twilightoops:

"Let's just say Twilight's condition will tie in to her punishment..."
... What's she being punished for...? I don't recall her doing anything wrong...
As for the rest of this, I'm kind of glad the original idea for Blueblood didn't pan out. It wouldn't have sat right with me, the rulers of the land and absolute authorities falsely pinning Celestia's condition on anybody, even if the target being framed is an idiot and an asshole. Sure, he would've needed some sort of punishment for his transgressions, but publicly blaming him for things he didn't do would've been terribly out of character.

I think its not really in Celestia's character to punish Twilight after all that shes done.
