Rainbow Dash Always Dresses in Style · 3:15pm Jul 11th, 2013
Can I talk about Rainbow Dash's style?
Now, I'm not a fashion expert, but were loose-fitting arm warmers ever popular?
To keep things in perspective, Mattel's American Dolls have a fashion line for girls, which allows them to dress as their favorite doll.
(This may also help explain why Mattel "archived" their historical dolls. Little girls don't want to dress as pioneers or colonial girls. Focusing on dolls with a more modern style allowed Mattel to sell matching dresses to the girls who buy American Girl dolls.)
Is anyone clamoring for a dress line based off of the Equestria Girls fashions?
Do girls want to wear loose-fitting arm warmers with knee-high boots? Will cosplayers work to recreate Rainbow Dash's blue dress with the silver stripe running up the middle and rainbow stripes on either side?
I can think of several other outfits which better reflect Rainbow Dash's style.
And if Hasbro only wants to produce fashion dolls who wear dresses, there's plenty of options available, too.
And if Hasbro was really daring, they could try some more... revealing fashions.
Only Bronystories would make a blog post about a doll's dress.
OK then.
Is the dolls out yet? I really want the Twilight and Sunset Shimmer one
Wow, Some of those human dress designs are just... WOW.
Yeah, Hasbro could use people with ideas like that.
1203918 Amen. HOT DAMN SHE LOOKS LIKE A GODESS!!

Yes, but you know what all those fan-designed outfits were missing? Rainbow arm warmers.

Clearly, Hasbro has its finger on the pulse of young girls' fashions. (Sarcasm.)

A hoodie and combat boots are definitely her style.
1203934 Exactly. I like john joseco's view on a human RD, personally. Well, not necessarily the fashion, but the overall look.

When the ulterior motive behind the show is to act as a toy commercial, the toys are serious business.
At least, I think that's his motivation. I don't know.
Rainbow Dash's style is so devastating, that it makes her hard to hit on the battlefield, where all blows towards her are just glancing.
1203934 .....I have a friend who used to wear one of those.
1203913
Actually, he isn't alone.
1204014
I'm not?
(Turns around and glances nervously.)
Probably.
It has been proven time and again that cosplayers will wear literally anything.
Ick. The hand warmers. Just no.
But the outfits you suggest?
THEY work. How is it you don't have a job with a toy company? You've a helluva eye for the trends and such, it seems.

It's almost as if Hasbro went out of their way to make an outfit which both looks terrible and fits her horribly. The other characters also have pretty terrible outfits, but at least they fit to some extent.
1204030 Hi there

Want to play with my Smarty Pants doll?
YOU CAN EVEN COMB HIS HAIR
Why can't we favorite journals, yet? :V
This is probably just an example of Hasbro being really, really, cheap. Rainbow's current dress is basically just a cheap plastic-fiber tube with shoulders that can be manufactured in a sweatshop at a cost of 50ยข per thousand.
Even the simpler dresses of the alternatives you showed would require two, maybe even three times as much effort to make, at a cost of up to $2 per thousand units! Obviously, that would cut too deeply into Hasbro's bottom line.
