Chapterization. Bah. · 4:46pm Jun 25th, 2013
So, after being harangued, I spent the whole morning retrofitting Empire of the Moon from a volumized story into a chapterized story on Google Docs. The upshot of this is that I can now import the chapters whole from Google Docs to FIMfiction. The downside is that FIMfiction is still a poor medium compared to Google Docs, incapable of doing the fonts I use and for some reason oddly insistent on centering entire chapters. (I'm still trying to nail that down.) And, of course, FIMfiction doesn't support in-line sticky-note type comments, nor footnotes at the bottoms of the pages, which I use to convey useful information about the story (or simply things like what music I suggest one listen to whilst reading the next bit.)
In the event anyone reads this, which I highly doubt anyone will, I still strongly recommend that you read EotM on Google Docs, the way it was meant to be read.
i read it.
Haranguing complete. The other upshot to chapters instead of volumes is people being able to actually open the Google Docs story without their browsers freezing from its sheer size.
As for footnotes, to be fair, the FIMFiction writing guide discourages their use, particularly for music recommendations.
