Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

Today's episode is about Applejack and Rainbow Dash competing.

    The good times are over.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Horse Play

So hey, it's a new episode. Surely nothing to be excited about. Just another standard episode of a cartoon pony show.

    Only it's a CELESTIA EPISODE!

Prepare for extra spicy biased scoring as we look at Best Princess' newest episode, “Horse Play!”

Chapter Fifteen Wrap-Up · 7:06am Mar 28th, 2012

WARNING: SPOILERS!

Well, Chapter 15 has come and gone. The Discord drama has died down, I have the edited version on GDocs (not uploading it onto FimFic yet to avoid bumping the story needlessly), and Chapter 16 has begun production. So...another pointless blog posts.

Man I love this thing too much. Sorry to bother y'all.

Chapter 15 went through a lot of revisions, which can be evidenced by the hundred bajillion errors and typos. I knew what I wanted, but getting there in at least a somewhat believable way was a nightmare in and of itself.

There were a few flashbacks that got cut along the way, mostly because they would have disrupted the flow or just didn't work when explained all the way. We would have seen Celestia burn the Griffon Kingdom to the ground when their king kidnapped Luna, the actual election results breaking the princess' hearts, and the actual fight with Nightmare Moon. Of those, the last one is the only one I wish I had included, but after the Discord scene, having Celestia get slammed through a wall, struck by lightning, and nearly Force Choked because she refused to fight Luna was in rather poor taste.

Heck, the whole Discord bit was in poor taste. In my defense, I will say that Discord's behavior was a little justified, at least when I was planning the thing. He was trying to get back to dinner, and Celestia kind of pushed the whole idea of an actual fight, even after he told her how pointless it was. Either way, Celestia was something he had to remove, and if it meant he could break Luna at the same time, all the better.

It always did bother me how so many people latch onto Discord like he was some kind of misunderstood prankster, or he and Celestia were friends or whatnot. The last one is at least understandable, and has been done well in fics. But Discord is not a prankster. He is a psychopath. He didn't need to play a game to defeat the Mane 6; he could have just brainwashed them all and been done with it. But no, he wanted to use five of them to break Twilight, which would then break Celestia, which would represent his ultimate triumph. And keep in mind that in the show's canon, he was doing this for EONS. I would have been happy to have his defeat in RoH be the end, but apparently he's coming back again. (Drat.)

Originally, Celestia would have been more whiny. Her mind would have retreated fully into her filly side, pinning the blame on everypony but herself. The Anti-Smile Equation would have been Pinkie breaking down that illusion of comfort until Celly's rational side had to take over again, allowing her to be reasoned with. But given the timeframe, it made more sense for her to have calmed down enough that Pinkie just had to convince her that being a filly wasn't as wonderful as she thought.

So yeah, that's the final thoughts.

Next chapter may or may not be the last, depending on how I feel about the end. If it isn't, then the last chapter will be rather short, and just serve to finish everything up nice and neatly. See you soon.

Oh, and I guess no one got the 7th Guest reference. That, or it was just so unfunny that everyone blocked it out, like the King's Quest V reference in Chapter 10. Oh bronies, why do you make me feel so old?

You're not old you just have better taste in movies than us

Also Discord is the nicest pony (thing) and if you say otherwise I'll stick my fingers in my ears and go lalalallaalalalalalalalal

That's right,Discord is not a prankster,Pinkie and Rainbow Dash are pranksters.

Discord is supposed to be a bastard son of a bitch that rejects order, takes pleasure in taking out the worst of a character and likes to brainwash creatures and make them miserable.

I like him for what he is: a villain. He works as a villain. He's like a kiddie version of the Joker. And that's why I have a hard time understanding people that take his side(and even that, because I find it very unlikely to be reasonable with the freaking spirit of chaos). Is one thing having a little bit of sympathy for him,but actually taking him his side and embracing a world of chaos? must be out of their minds of simply rebellious teenagers.

That said,I'm enjoying this series so far and this chapter is not exception. As for the 7th guest,I've never played it,unfortunately so I couldn't notice it :applecry:
