A Query... · 5:37pm Mar 26th, 2012
I know this might seem like an odd thing to ask right now, but I'd like to ask all of you your opinions on something. You see, I have a story planned for the not-so-distant future, but I'm hung up on how I should end it.
So, I'd like to ask you: should I go for the sadder, more realistic ending, or the less realistic but happier ending?
(I'll give a summary of what the story is about if anypony asks.)
It depends on the story.
But I like logical endings but allso happy endings. It is why it excist alternativ ending. You culd flip a coin on which to use and us the other as an alternativ ending.
I for one am convinced that not every > Story < has to end in sadness.
It is one of the main reasons we have fiction, in the real world, there's hardly ever a happy ending, because that's not the way the world works.
But in Fiction (especially fanfiction) you can write the ending yourself, so I vote for a happy ending.
"Literature is a luxury fiction is a necessity." ~G.K. Chesterton
Fuck physics, go with happy!
Don't pick on Physics. I said Logic. Pick on him insted not her.
Why not... BOTH?
DUN DUN DUUU- No? All right...
For the actual ending, I advise a sadder, more realistic approach. BUT, you don't have to restrict yourself to that.
There's always an "Epilogue", after all.
I will admit, I'm a little hesitant to write a happy end to the story, because of what it's about.
In the story, our main character (who for now shall remain unidentified) is kicked out of his parents house. While looking for a new place to live, he finds a want ad for a apartment made by a girl that he really likes (who will again remain unidentified), and at the urging of his best friend, he goes for it. But while checking the apartment out, he finds out that the girl he likes is already sharing the apartment with another girl.
And, they're... together. In that way.
Also, the sad ending would fit better with the recurring theme (I suppose) of the main character not getting what he wants in life.
I will personally shove a pineapple down your throat if you dont write both.
I think you should do a realistic ending but make it an "every cloud has a silver lining" moment, like say the main character gets contacted by an old girlfriend or something at the end
45367 I'd like to, but the problem is that Dumb Bell is legendarily bad with dealing with women. He hasn't had a girlfriend for more than a few days, and that was way back when he was in high school.
(Oh, I forgot to say this last time, but I'm planning for this to be a human fic.)

Well it doesn't have to be a romantic silver lining, it could just be a "things are starting to look up" silver lining
45397 Fair enough, I suppose.

I'm with Thepple.
If you do go with the sad ending, have it be bittersweet. Maybe he loses in one thing he wanted, but gained just as much. Friends. Discovering more about himself and working to improve his flaws. Some sort of silver lining that ends the story sadly, but with a ray of hope.
I would normally go for the realistic ending, with possibly an alternate ending chapter after about a week or so.
Whichever you do, I personally would try to make sure that at least even the sad ending has closure in it.
I agree with Wild Charger

I guess you could have a sad yet accepting ending, there are always more fi... ponies in the se... Equestria (especially considering the ratio of males to females in the show).

What is that way?
46384 They're lesbians. That's what that way is.
