Note on Chapter 15 · 9:06pm Mar 24th, 2012
The following has been copypasted from the EqD page:
I was horribly unsure about including the full Discord scene when I was writing the fic. I hinted all the way back in Chapter Seven that Discord had almost killed Celestia, and intended to use it to further give a reason why Luna was so despondent after hitting Celestia in Chapter Fourteen. (I mean besides "I just smacked my sister so hard the bruise showed through her fur.")
I even mentioned back on my blog at FimFiction that I was thinking of censoring the scene, but everyone that responded to the post or read the scene IRL thought it was fine. When taken as a whole, though, it was wrong to include it as-is.
I'll edit the fic and throw up the censored version soon. The uncensored bit will be relegated to the blog for those who want to read it.
For those interested, the censored version changes the following:
- The bit with Celestia's wings is mostly untouched.
- When Celestia gets hit by the solar flare, the censored version just says she was badly burnt. It doesn't describe it in detail.
- Discord's taunts while Luna is cowering are cut.
- There is no description of Celestia's body. Instead, the scene cuts back to present!Luna, who simply says that Celestia was "barely alive" without any mention of her actual injures. The scene then continues as normal after Discord drops Celestia's body.
I know, I've already murdered my own fic. I just wanted to wrap up every loose end I could before the end. I don't like to have to make edits this drastic, but enough complained, and unlike a certain other change in this show, this one is warranted.
I apologize to all those who were upset with the scene. And for those who thought it was fine, the original will still be here.
I don't see any problem with it
Murdered fic? Nah. I still love it :)
I don't really mind either way. It's not like the story hasn't strayed a bit dark already (the entire Kuchen arc comes to mind, especially the bit about the pillow), but this was the first time it was so explicitly shown.
At least it still here
I think the reason I liked the scene so much was because I it's sudden impact. There where no signs to warn and then Blamo their childhood really did suck and their parent might be assholes
Why would people complain? The flashback is used as a device to make you more emotionally connected to Luna/Celestia and to know why Luna was so distraught by harming her sister. It's is rated Teen for a reason. Ok, rant over.
I would think that having both chapters up and titling them censored or not would be easier. If nothing else, easier to find.
Also, you aren't murdering your fic. I still love it, you are just ending it which has to happen. I actually appreciate it more to have all those little loose ends patched up so the story is complete and questions don't have to be asked, story related that is, in the comments.
I personally see no problem with the original version. I can't understand whatever moral outbursts the other fans might have; you're the author after all. It's like the whole Derpy incident.
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS, CELESTIA BANISH IT.
/rant
I believe that an author should never change a well done story unless they personally feel that it needs it. If you actually feel yourself that the the scene was to graphic, then I wholeheartedly support your decision to change it. I can not support it though if you are only doing this only to appease others as I believe it destroys some of your credibility as a author. Everything in your story is well written and you have no reason to be ashamed of any of it.
43317 I actually had reservations going in. What Discord did was far more extreme than anything Kuchen did, and described in more detail.
BTW, the censored version is up on Google Docs. I won't upload the revision to FimFic until the next chapter is ready.

Why not just upload both versions instead and use the censored one for cannon, with the uncensored for the now curious.
