The Passing of a Legend · 2:32pm May 9th, 2013

I know this is three days late but I need to announce it. On May 7th, VFX director Ray Harryhausen passed away at the age 92. Ray Harryhausen was, no, is best known for his stop-motion creations as seen in films such as Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, Jason and the Argonauts, It Came from Deep Beneath the Sea, Clash of the Titans and Mighty Joe Young. In his lifetime, Harryhausen created some of the most memorable monsters brought to life by stop-motion from Joe Young, Talos, the Hydra, the Skeleton Warriors, the Kraken, the Rhedosaurus, the Ymir and Gwangi to the Harpies and Taro the Dragon and left a large mark in our childhood, mine included. He was a true visionary artist who perfected the art of stop-motion set in motion by Willis O'Brien and without him, we wouldn't have Lord of the Rings, Evil Dead, Godzilla or the excellent remake of King Kong today. His creations captured the awe and imagination of movie-goers and makers alike and it really saddens me to know he's gone.

Rest in peace, Mr. Harryhausen. Your memory will live on.
