Friendship is Magic.
Yes, scholarly nods are in order.
While watching Keep Calm and Flutter On for the second time, two things in particular caught my attention:
1: The Title Dump with all the subtlety of Bucky McGillycuddy to the face.
Fluttershy: Go on. Say it...
Discord: [groans] Alright. [quickly] Friendship is magic.
Earlier...
2: Discord's relationship history.
Rainbow Dash: What's gotten into you?! Why do you keep cutting him so much slack?
Fluttershy: Because that's what friends do.
Discord: We're friends?
Fluttershy: Why, of course! I can't remember my house being this lively before you came along.
Discord: Oh. Well, I've... never really had a friend before.
Fluttershy: Well now you do!
Back up.
Discord, who is so magically powerful that he can completely undermine the influence of two goddesses over their respective celestial bodies, cause pies to rain upwards and make it look like some kind of madpony took over the Cloudsdale Weather Bureau.
Oh, wait . . .
The point is, Discord is the maddest of dogs, and all reality is his chew-toy.
Discord . . . has "never really had a friend before."
This may be my inner paranoid conspiracy theorist taking over my frontal lobe again, but I think the reason they wanted Discord to admit that friendship is indeed magic was so that none of us would realise that he laughs in the face of that sacred Law of the Universe, probably while knitting it into a sweater with nine sleeves.
But as the spirit of chaos, breaking the sacred Laws of the Universe is all in a day's fun.
So let's all smile to ourselves as we think of our favourite patchwork creature perpetuating the Inverse Law of Friendship.

Um, OK.
