    Why the heck not?

It's 11:30 P.M. on a Saturday evening, I haven't had any sleep whatsoever for the past 43 hours, and I am bored beyond all belief. Between shovels of turtle tracks and unhealthy doses of caffeine, I concluded that it wouldn't be a poor decision to waste a few minutes out of the time I am already wasting to type up a brief summary of what kinds of writing I'll be working on. Who knows? Maybe one day, I'll be perceived as semi-famous throughout the brony community and the literary hipsters will tell legends of how they saw this post before it became mainstream. But, I digress. On to the flesh of the entry.

First off, I'll talk about the only present fic I'm working on very seriously: Soaring Waltz. Chapter one was approved about a month ago, and chapter two is currently under production, though the aforementioned "production" is constantly interrupted by schoolwork and other necessities of life, such as sleep and nourishment. Although I don't want to raise the hopes of the four people who will read this post, I can pretty much guarantee that the second chapter will be out by the end of the month. The story will likely be eight or nine chapters overall, clocking in at a good 45-55k words. I'm using the story experimentally more than anything, as it is my first fic. I have to learn to characterize through actions, body language and the like, and to keep a story flowing from section to section. That being said, I don't think I have any problems brainstorming for ideas. A small section here or there sometimes needs some work, but the summary of the entire fic and the theme are written already. Unfortunately, summaries do not equate to the actual story. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out. One thing is certain: it will be a wild ride.

If you payed attention to detail, you probably noticed the first sentence of the previous paragraph and are now asking, "but wait, you said SW was the only story you were working on seriously... are there other fics you're writing?" And the obvious answer to that is yes. But only as side projects. It's doubtful many of them will ever see the light of day. The first of those is a psychological, mind-contorting grim fic based off of the song "September." There are others out there, but they seem... how do I put it kindly... inattentively-catered-to. The flow is strange, the character is simply too plain, etc. The main issue I have with those stories is that they try to make it a surprise that the main character is the culprit. That is not a surprise. Listen to the song once, and that is obvious. Readers will likely be drawn to the story because of the song, not vice versa. Even if the reader has not heard the song, it is no surprise that the main character is the culprit. What needs to be made the surprise is how it happens. When my schedule dies down and I finally have the time to finish and revise the story, you'll get to see my approach to making that surprise.

Other concepts I've thought of are relatively tame in comparison to what I've written as of yet, but none of them are impressive enough to list here. I'm too tired to continue typing. My attention span agrees. I'm done for now. Good night, sweet dreams.
