About Badge and Honor and Armor

If you haven't already, go ahead and read Badge and Honor and Armor. It won't take too long. It's a short fic.

Let's be honest. This story isn't really a pony fanfic. Calling this a pony fanfic would be like naming a cat "Dog". There isn't Twilight and her friends. There's no friendship report or lesson on harmony. The only thing this has is ponies.

So why did I write this?

To vent. If it wasn't for the ponies, this story could be something you would find at Walgreens. Except, that it's based too much on real life. I live in a city that is ranked the highest in sex trafficking in the U.S. It's not Chicago and it's not New York. I've lived here for years and never seen any prostitution. Not because there isn't any, but because I was blind to what it actually looked like. It wasn't until recently, when I was pursuing a separate issue, that my eyes were open to the circumstances that cause girls to become prostitutes and the life that they are force to lead. I'd admit. I had nightmares for a bit. If you want to find out more, check out the memoir Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd. It might be hard to find, but it's worth the effort.

Which leads to the coffee symbolism and how it relates to the main character. The coffee represents the corruption and evil in the world. It's cold and bitter, but it wakes you up to the truth. Most people would take a swig, then spit it out. Some might drink just enough to wake up, but no more then needed. My main character, it should be obvious who he is, by his nature and by his cutie mark has to drink the entire cup. He is the defender of the weak. He knows that he can only fulfill his special talent if he knows the full depth of corruption and evil. That is why he stays in Coltcago.

That is why I write stories.
