Alright, all bastardization of Latin aside, here's the thought I was wrestling with last night and I can't stop thinking how much sense it makes...

The Crystal Empire is a kingdom of earthbound ponies, largely without magic, save the Crystal Heart. The only magic they can seem to use is harnessing the power of love...

The Changelings are seemingly an anomaly, terrestrial arthropods that seem to defy the very meaning of what it is to be arthropods. What struck me, is their physical form and their chosen mode of nourishment. How does a creature, such as a Changeling go about getting love? Really, the whole hive cannot go changing themselves into ponies and other quadrupeds, or else, through sheer luck they would eventually be discovered. Nope. It doesn't make sense...

See where this is going?

Which leads me to my logical hypothesis; Changelings are golems, constructs if you will. Forged eons ago (1000+ years...) through an unknown process, as defenders of the Crystal Empire. They are a relatively mindless swarm, fed by the very love of the Empire's Crystal Heart, which has been established to be very powerful. It is my opinion that their 'Queen' must be some sort of living, user interface, to thus allow their pony masters to interact with the Swarm and give it orders. Thus, reliant on love as their source of nourishment, they could not wander too far from the city, lest they starve. When the city vanished, they horde was forced into migrating south, into Equestria Proper to seek nourishment... It was not until some point after the fall of the Crystal Empire that the Changelings were either; 1- corrupted by some outside influence and turned to oppose their pony creators; or 2- without a ready food source like the Crystal Heart, largely became 'feral' and thus not exactly conducive to being around civilized ponies.

Just a thought kicking around my head that I may, or may not refine and use at some later point...?

As for my writing...
Ch X of The Chronicle of Tau Niem is coming along nicely, albeit far slower than I had originally intended...

In other news, for those of you following The Alicorn Chronicles, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that my long prophesied rewrite of The Fall is underway! A new Prologue and Ch I, composed of entirely new material, are now complete and I am beginning work on Ch II; which is actually the rewrite of the original Ch I. The purpose of the rewrite is to actually make The Fall into the tragedy that it is supposed to be. Also, the second purpose is to actually make the story a little more than a short-story. I am hoping for a new word-count somewhere between 20k and 30k, however, at this early stage, I cannot be more accurate than that...
