Okay, this received a positive response when I posted it on someone else's blog, so I'll put it here too. This is my 'wish list' for Season 4. Enjoy and comments welcome!
1) A running joke about Twilight Sparkle 'having to go back to Magic Kindergarten'; because her base power-levels have gone up by at least an order of magnitude, she's having to learn how to regulate and control her magic all over again. This can be both a comedy device and a plot device leading directly to Equestria Girls;
2) The Princess of Friendship has to learn how to fly properly (especially after colliding with a hot-air balloon at the end of her first flight, just after her coronation). A comedy episode beckons with her in Remedial Flying lessons with Scootaloo, Derpy and any other weaker fliers you would like to use. Poor Rainbow Dash hadn't been banking on this when she agreed to teach this year's Cloudsdale Summer Flying School to get extra credits for the Wonderbolt Academy! (Title: 'Earning Your Wings'");
3) Trixie visits Pinkie Pie to tell her that her parents are feeling their age and adds that, during her time at the Rock Farm, they told her they really want to make their peace with their daughter - a semi-sad but ultimately bittersweet and family-affirming Pinkie focus episode, possibly with some conflict with her younger sisters and either one of the other Mane Six or Trixie accompanying her as a sidekick/straight-mare (Title: "Rocky Family Relationships");
4) When Princess Luna literally 'drops in' on a Cutie Mark Crusaders meeting/sleep-over one late evening (she crashes through the roof of the hut), the Crusaders are about to hear the most amazing Cutie Mark tales of all: How the Princesses of the Day and Night earned their Cutie Marks! Will also include Luna offering her thoughts on the Crusaders' special talents (Title: "The Celestial Cuties" - Two-parter with a possible Applebloom Cutie Mark at the end);
5) Music is a magic that genuinely moves the heart and soul. However, when Sweetie Belle's music moves items around in the Carousel Boutique one day, Rarity decides that the time has come to figure out what is her little sister's special talent (Title: "Spell-singer" - Can climax with Sweetie Belle receiving her Cutie Mark);
6) Discord comes to Ponyville to meet with the Mane Six. It turns out that he has been waiting for a Princess to be a Bearer of an Element of Harmony again; he has a challenge to present to our heroines and a tantalising clue to offer about the origins of Ponykind, the origin of the strange legends of the species known as 'human' and the humans' role in the ponies' earliest history. The question is: can the God of Chaos ever truly be trusted? (Title: "There is Always Another Rainbow" - Includes funny Lyra cameo and the return of Megan from G1; direct prequel to Equestria Girls);
7) I'd like Equestria Girls to start off with a 2-4 part crossover, introducing Earth from the ponies' "stranger in a strange land" perspective and having Celestia instruct her former student and her friends to investigate this world of legends - is it a threat or a new opportunity? (No doubt this storyline will be jumped on by both pro- and anti-TCB fans);
8) Scootaloo has long wished to be worthy of the awesome Rainbow Dash but do her talents really lie in the same direction as her idol or should she go along her own path? More importantly, does she know what 'awesome' really means in this context? It turns out that her agility is a clue of a natural aptitude for dance. (Title: "Awsome is as Awesome Does" - Scootaloo Cutie Mark episode);
9) As you see, I would like the original three Crusaders to earn their Cutie Marks this season. However, they decide that the quest is not done until every blank-flank out there has found their special talent. So, the three friends start to recruit other young colts and set them off along their own path - A Cutie Mark Crusader coming-of-age story guest-starring Dinky, Pipsqueak, Rumble and any other blank-flanks you can think of; Twilight Sparkle features in the 'wise teacher' role, telling our little heroines that they may yet have a special destiny (Title: "Still a Crusade to Complete");
10) Overall, I'd like the other five of the Mane Six to realise/achieve their true destinies: Applejack perhaps will become the new mayor after becoming disgusted with the ineffective and venal Mayor Mare and then extends her determined and wise care to the entire town; Fluttershy finally gets recognition for her talent as a healer and counsellor; Rarity has to decide between the bright lights of the big city and her friends in the town she loves; Rainbow Dash has to decide whether she wants to abandon all her existing relationships and life to live the wandering life of a Wonderbolt; Pinkie Pie must realise that she cannot truly be happy until she has made peace with her past;
11) I'd also like the background CheriMac ship addressed, maybe a wedding episode that showcases the difference between Earth Pony and Unicorn culture;
12) To every light there is a dark, this is an eternal truth of the universe; to every harmony there is a chaos - but is Discord all there is on the flip side of harmony? Where exactly did the Alicorn Amulet come from and what was the origin of Sombra's strange horn? Twilight Sparkle sets out to answer these questions and unwittingly stumbles across the oldest and darkest secret hiding under the sunlight and happiness of Equestria - multi-part meta-plot to reveal the power behind Nightmare Moon, Sombra and Discord, ultimately feeding into the season-end two-parter and maybe even a Christmas Special 2-hour movie (Title: "The Elements of Chaos").
You do know they never really loved each other, do you?
And about Equestria Girls, I heard none of its characters, like Flash sentry, will appear in S4 and that it was only a spin-off

1) This blog post was written long before EqG was even released; it was still considered a possible spin-off series when I wrote it, so get off your high horse (pony?) and stop telling me things I know;
2) You need to pay more attention to background ponies. Cheri and Mac have been seen wandering around Ponyville together on occasion. Who knows whether that may indicate something more?
