Next Fic: Clone Pinkie + The Who? · 8:23am Feb 2nd, 2013

To try and prevent myself from getting burnt out on EoE I've been working on a different project off and on.

It's called I Am Not the Actor, and it takes the themes of Quadrophenia by The Who and applies them to an AU where one of Pinkie's clone's won the test instead of the original. For those who haven't heard the album, its main theme is identity--how we create it for ourselves, and how our peers shape it, for better or worse.

I'll be honest and say Quadrophenia is not the best story ever told (other rock operas have managed to tell plots well without liner notes), but it's music is still evocative of those themes. My plan is to sort of meld Quadrophenia's plot with a few original ideas, and then litter the result with references to Who lyrics. Hopefully the result will be able to stand on its own plot-wise, although my editors have already pointed out several missteps I've made that need fixing.

No clue when it'll be ready for posting, but to whoever stumbles upon this I must ask: am I crazy? Is using MLP fanfiction to do a whole plot reference to a Who album a winning formula, or do I only think that because they're one of my favorite bands? Can the infusion of those ideas save the "clone Pinkie wins the test" cliche?

The various TVT forumites ranged from enthusiasm to ambivalence as far as the concept, and I'm curious if that will hold true of a larger audience. Any thoughts are welcome.
