So I finally remembered to watch "Just For Sidekicks" and don't have much to say about it beyond...
YAY FOR HAVING MY SHIP VALIDATED.
This scene? This scene where Golden Harvest and Written Script are nuzzling at the train station? Totally made the episode for me, even more than Cheerilee and Big Mac strolling through town together. It's my headcanon that Written is Dinky's father and Golden his special somepony, so having that scene there just gave me fuzzies.
The only thing that could have made it better would have been Dinky being there, too.
...Also, Gummy is really freakin' creepy.

I still like Fluttermac over Cheerimac, so I'm just going to assume those two are two-opposite sex friends hanging out (which happens in real-life, oddly enough). However, I fully support this new Carrot Top ship. Move over Braeburn!
I'm a bit hesitant to call Dinky Carrot's daughter. I've seen too many heartwarming mother/daughter fics with Derpy and Dinky to toss them all away. Maybe Dinky is just spending some time with "Auntie" Carrot Top while Mommy is busy with deliveries.

See, I tend to like ships that have some canon basis (with the obvious exception of my Thuder Hooves ship), so to me, Fluttermac makes no sense, but Cheerimac totally does. I like the idea of there being some lingering after effects of the potion or something. Or they could just be friends like Cheerilee stated, but I do enjoy the idea of them together. My mind says yes to that.
As for Dinky and Derpy, that one boggles my mind! I see absolutely NO basis for it, other than their similar coloring,which is what I'm kind of poking fun at with WGGTS. I don’t think there’s ever a scene where they’re interacting, or even where they’re really together! I don’t understand how that bit of fanon became so wildly popular. There is, however, that scene with Writter Script, Dinky, and Golden Harvest at the train station, which got me thinking he could be her father. I’m writing Golden as a sort of step-parent, though. I totally agree that the idea of her being Dinky’s mother doesn’t quite jive right. She’s just Script’s girlfriend, in my mind.
...I also don't get Derpy-the-postal-worker, either. Where did that come from??

Ah, I see. So after Season 2 ended?
You see, many of the brony fanons established themselves in the first summer break, where all we had was season 1. For your question abou FLuttermac, this was when it established itself: it's a shy pegasus meeting a gentle giant, and a relationship where they can accept and value each other for who they were was born. Many shipfics involved FLuttershy needing to help the animals on the farm, or her being sick so Mac had to send apples to her. Cheerimac literally didn't exist at this point, and pretty much those who didn't like Fluttermac just all jumped on the bandwagon.
I understand you preferring ships in a canon base, but remember many of the best ships simply didn't have much material to work with. Consider Vinyltavia, which had zero canon base, yet the fans are drawn into it like a moth into the flame. Plus, I don't really like the idea that there might be some leftover love potion, since it, you know, reduced two rational adults into drooling idiots (which is brainwashing) and nearly destroyed who they were.
Like I said before, DInky was Derpy's daughter even before the fans left 4chan. People saw Winter Wrap-Up, saw the incredible similar color schemes, and latched onto it (this was before pony genetics were known). Things like this story were among the first there, and nearly everyone accepted it on some degree. I can understand you not getting it, but remember that this was the closest thing to universal fanon the fans had for 2 years.

I do understand that concept, of there being things so ingrained that people accept them as truth. I came in to this fandom with a long time background in the Transformers fandom, which is also home to a lot of widely accepted fanon. I had the same issue there; my brain just doesn't let me accept fanon as "fact" if there's not a slight bit of canon basis for it. I eschewed many things that others widely embraced, things that were so old an idea that people couldn't remember who started them any more! It didn't always make me popular.
While I do read a lot of fanfic and there are tons of fabulous ideas out there, I don't really like the idea of blindly doing what other authors are doing. I look to the series proper for inspiration (with a few noteable exceptions, like my deciding to make Dinky special needs) and form my own opinions, pairings, relationships and backgrounds based on what I see -- Not on what the popular fanon might be. I have always been this way and will always be this way. Apparently, it seems to be working, if the sheer number of people who like "How Sweet It Is" and "We're Gonna Get There Soon" is any indication.
I think it's just the way my brain works -- There has to be a reason for things, no matter how small (I once shipped two characters because of a scene in which it looked like one of them was staring at the other's butt...And after LOLing about that, I found a lot of other reasons for them to work as a couple), and a lot of popular fanon -to me- is without reason. That doesn't mean I look down on people or criticize them for it, I just don't get it.
And as for the love potion thing...I don't think I made much sense there myself. I didn't actually mean that there's still any poison in them, but something more along the lines of "We're attracted to each other...But is it real or some kind of lingering after effect, some hold over from that horrible experience?" I think that would make for a fabulous, original fic -- Because there would be that whisper of doubt for a long, long time and it would be a lot of fun to work with.

As for not understanding fanon, perhaps you could start asking why something is fanon? Kind of like how you are doing now. Without the context, it doesn't make much sense, but if you follow its path to ascendance, maybe you'll find the same reason other people fell in love with the concept.
As for the "possible love, possibly love potion," I remember a fic like that, but sadly it hasn't updated in forever.
