How to Earn Followers (THIS CAN BE REALLY HELPFUL) · 12:39am Jan 16th, 2013
This is basically a list.
While the best way to do this is to write a bunch of really good stories and gradually (or rapidly) get followers, there are ways to do it without publishing a story. They work to a degree. Hey, I got 59 followers without publishing any story.
1) Get permission to re-write story ideas from a guy who was banned, and tell his followers you will continue his work (Which I will at some point when I get to it)
2) Edit for a lot a people. Note that this only works when you are really good at the craft.
3a) Comment on a lot of blogs, stories, group pages, etc. Aim to be insightful, empathetic, comedic and/or interesting. It will catch people's attention.
3b) Be the last person to comment if you're being replied to. Act like you're gunning for the top spot for "Top Commenters."
4a1) Favorite a lot of stories. You should legitimately like them, though.
4a2) Watch a lot of people. Again, you should only do it if you legitimately like at least one of their works.
4b) Write something at the title of your comments page about asking people "if you are here to thank me for favoriting/watching you, I ask that you follow me back", or something along those lines.
5) Become admin/contributor in at least 2 groups. Become very involved in at least one.
5a) Make a lot of threads in those groups. This is a part of "becoming very involved."
6) Blog about a bunch of things. Again, be insightful, empathetic, comedic and/or interesting.
7) Add a user page gimmick. Something that gives it more "pizzazz", or that will get people's attention.
8) Have some sort of weird shenanigan -- something that people will remember you by. For example, Regidar is known for his obsession with Nirvana and Curt Kobain.
9) Have a catch phrase. For example, I alternate between "SEEMS LEGIT" and "Interesante". Jet Howitzer has his trademark "AVANTE!"
10) Hang out with the trolls. Apparently it's a good technique. (I've seen it done but I don't recommend it)
I don't even blog, and I have a lot of followers!
715782
You did that by repeating step number 3 a lot.
That's how I followed you!
715787
That's a given.
715794
And somehow, I'm not a top 10 commenter. I think I need to read more things so I can comment on all of them.
I've worked up 62 followers from my stories
Haven't been featured yet. I don't really care, I just
likelooooooooooove writing and it's awesome getting feedback xD.I might have to follow this list more. Not that I'm complaining since I have a lot of followers already, but I want to get as many as possible.
I'm greedy like that
715797
It takes awhile to get to the top 10. I know I'll get there at some point. I write at least 20 comments a day.
715829
I remember you as the person who wrote "Rainy Days". I still remember it.
I had to look up the stories you wrote to remember it, actually.
715838
Repost it. More people should know.
715852
I wish there was a way to know how many comments you had. I think I'm over a 1000, but beyond that, I have no idea.
715855
You could always suggest it to the mods. I know the idea of "liking/favoriting blogs" is being considered.
715859
Just did
715852 Rainy Days was so bad, yet it's my most popular story... the magic of cheap comedy inspired by a Veggie55 comic.
715873
Good.
I am proud of you, young one.
715884
It wasn't bad, it's just not your expectation of the type of story that would become popular.
I only have about 20 followers, although that's fine. Though recently, I haven't been commenting on stories or blogs much (too busy). But I'll get there someday. I like these ideas, though
Though editing really helps, too. That brought me a good number of my followers.
715927
I do all those things. That's how I thought it up.
715915 Yeah, I guess. I only say it's bad because it was something I threw together in an hour or so because I was bored and couldn't think of anything for my serious stories.
715971
I see where you're coming from.
Hey, look, I just got another follower from technique #4!
715977 XD.
I'm just glad Rainy Days wasn't featured, even though it came really close to. I didn't want my first featured story to be some cheap comedy. I want it to be what I actually like to write, which is slice of life with some romance or sadness. Right now, I'm writing an adventure story. I've never seen anything like this written before, so hopefully it'll be good.
715983
I hope so. I don't like being disappointed. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Sweetie_Belle_lolface.png

I have 2, 3, 4a2, 4b, 5, and 6.
And my motives for half of them were to become more popular.
It seems we both agree on how to get more popularity. I think you missed putting comments everywhere, though. And having a user page gimick. I have my Rules of FIMFiction, a spoof of the rules of the internet, and most of the comments I get on my user page are about that, and probably a handful of followers too. Also, having weird shenanigans. Like Regidar does, or like obsessing over Van Halen. Hanging out in the troll crowd is also a good way to get followers, if you're willing to troll. I do.
Otherwise, it's a pretty complete list.
717370
I consider that as #3.
You could consider the music thing one. But really, I almost never have time for it, so it's a little pointless for me.
Yeah, no.
I troll occasionally, but that's not the type of thing I want to be recognized/get followers for.
I see your point on all of the above. They have been added.
half my follows are from friends, and half are from people who think i'm going to be consistent with updates
740690
Then comes the question: Are you consistent with your updates?

This war ends now.
912335
Now that's just mean.
912340
That's not mean.
It's called being strict.
They have their similarities, but they are entirely different.

War? Lolwat

//dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Luna_apple.png Too many unrelated comments.
Take your arguments/random blabbering somewhere else.

Awwww...
I want others to appreciate my writing, and follow me for that.
I don't want others to follow me because I'm an oh-so-popular social butterfly.
Thanks, but no thanks.

You'd be surprised how interconnected those two things can be.
715977
Soooooo...a writers block fic...???
