    Every rewrite feels better

You know, in the past year since I tried my hand at writing, I've decided to stay it from publishing any of the works. I haven't written much, only about 10,000 words or so, but the few ideas I have written down have become clearer. Might get back to a story on a remarkably stupid pun, see what sort of humor I can come up with now after giving it a 2 year break. All in all, I feel like I'm

    Upon the Matter of Writing

I've finally begun to appreciate writing. My writing. At first, I was trying to do everything at once. Plot, story advancement, world building, without considerations. Now I've begun to realize that there are layers. Editors and proofreaders spread the workload, but what the final product ultimately ends up being is similar to a good painting: layers upon layers of color.

    One More Time

I regret to say that my writing wasn't as up to par as I thought it to be, nor as interesting as what I thought it might become. Sure, there were interesting concepts down the road, but nothing that get attention and yell, "This stuff has flair!" anytime soon. And, while I became better, it still really hasn't met the standards I want to reach. In the meantime, I'm working on a Princess Molestia

    I'm writing rubbish

Well, as I look at Carbon Copy more and more, the uglier it gets. Suffice to say, trying to write it is like trying to say a brick is aerodynamic. The last chapter is just... ugh. I'm putting the story on hiatus, and will be doing a rewrite to actually give myself something to work with instead of just going, "Hey, that's a good idea, let's put that in the story immediately and make the character

    Well, how 'bout that?

As of yesterday, I'm an uncle. It's odd to think that I'm already that old, but at the same time exciting. Who am I kidding? I just want to send the little bugger back home after visiting on a sugar rush in a few years to get even with my sister.

I'm writing rubbish · 5:44pm Jan 12th, 2013

Well, as I look at Carbon Copy more and more, the uglier it gets. Suffice to say, trying to write it is like trying to say a brick is aerodynamic. The last chapter is just... ugh. I'm putting the story on hiatus, and will be doing a rewrite to actually give myself something to work with instead of just going, "Hey, that's a good idea, let's put that in the story immediately and make the character into a Gary Stu!"

The latest chapter will be posted, then I'll start on the rewrite. I know the story is built well, but the way I've set it up is going to ruin any future attempts at several arcs I'm thinking about. The redo will still start at the same place, but I really need to flesh out the personalities I have in place. Then I need fill in several plot holes and inconsistencies I'd have written, and pay a bit more attention to blah blah blah, the list goes on and on.

Trust me on this, the way the story was headed was just terrible.

Brilliant job, Jane. This is probably one of the hardest things a writer can accomplish, is successfully admitting to stopping his/her own story for a short time while you improve.

I hope you pull through, mate.
