New chapters are up for Egghead and Featherbrain and If the Flight Suit Fits. Double dose of Dash today! The Egghead chapter "Closer to Home" is a d'aaawww-ish bit of sweetness. I mentioned in comments for If the Flight Suit Fits that I'd get around to showing more of Dash's side of the equation - that this off-the-rails-any-minute-now relationship wasn't just a one-sided cougar crush on Spitfire's part, and I hope this new chapter "Been a While" shows some of that.
Headcanon thoughts for Egghead and Flight Suit:
If the Flight Suit Fits:
* Dash is in her early 20's (like most of the Mane6, and that's in Human years) while Spitfire is in her late 30's. Meaning, there's roughly a 15-year gap between them - not exactly a May-December romance, but it's part of the dynamic I'm hoping will keep this fic fresh enough that it doesn't become a complete Top Gun trope. It would be illegal at 10 and 25; look creepy if they were 16 and 31; at 23 and 38 it's odd but acceptable; 32 and 47, nopony would bat an eyelash. If they can last long enough, they have the potential for amazing stability and compatibility. Of course, that's like saying if they can waterski over Niagra Falls and survive, then the lake at the bottom is really pretty.
Egghead and Featherbrain:
* Dash is highly educated as regards flight. In this respect she knows more through both experience and book learning than Twilight does, though Twilight could catch up academically if she devoted herself to reading every text available on aerodynamics, flight theory, Pegasus history, etc. This is part of the attraction to Twilight: she's not dating a pony who's merely good at something - ie., a pony who's content to let their cutie mark talent carry them through life - but a pony who's gone above and beyond to make herself an absolute master of her talent, and who's not content to reach a plateau and sit there. Having ambition and drive plus the joy that comes with doing what you love is a majorly sexy combination. We're hoping that as Dash "settles down" with Twilight, she doesn't lose any of that drive and ambition.
Eh, tbh, in human years, I think Dash is twenty. Spitfire, however, I agree. Thirty seems reasonable.
I've always like the idea that Dash is ridiculously knowledgeable about what she does. She just exudes confidence, and she backs it up--seems reasonable to me. And it also makes sense, the connection with Twilight there. TwiDash and Raridash for me both have that dynamic with two ponies who value being as good at what they do as they can be.
I can't imagine dating someone 15 years younger than me. I mean, I don't have anything against 2 year olds. I just don't think we'd have that much in common.
