The Aquila. How does it work? · 1:50am Jan 7th, 2013
Brace yourselves. More inane chatter incoming.
So, the naval missions in Assassin's Creed III are probably the most entertaining part of the game. Yet one thing keeps nagging at me. How in Neptune's name does the Aquila NOT founder the minute she sets sail?
The Aquila is a brig, think the Interceptor from Pirates of the Caribbean, being a mid-sized ship known for being fast and maneuverable. Real world brigs were usually armed with about 10-18 guns. The biggest version of them in Sid Meier's Pirates were packing around 32 guns, same as the typical (real world) frigate. The Aquila, after upgrades, carries 60. I counted. With enough shot (and 4 ammo types) and powder stored onboard for long battles. Not including the 4 swivel guns. AND it can get an iron reinforced hull. And a ram. All that is HEAVY. 60 guns would not look out of place on a Ship of the Line, but they are specifically designed for that. A ship the size of a brig would just founder with that much weight on it, and they keep saying it's the fastest ship in the Atlantic!
Course, this only bothers me after the fact. It all goes out the window when your stomping on an entire fleet all by your one-sy.
Sorry for the rather silly post, but this has been itching the back of my mind for a couple days now.
