What other things I write: Bull Island · 2:18am Dec 29th, 2012
I am sure alot of you wonder how I am able to switch between comedy and drama the way I do and how I craft the stories I do (spelling errors aside...). Well, the reason for this is because I am an author. I have written, as of this blog, several novel (though none are currently published). This time spent writing trained me to become the type of writer I am and figure out how to crank out chapters as fast as I do.
That said, i am going to use this blog to, from time to time, discuss the novels I am currently writing, so you can see my (hopefully) full development into a full time novelist.
The current novel that I am editting is entitled Bull Island. It tells the story of Harold Hendricks, a teenager living in the 1800s in the South. After a major fight with his father, who is an abusive drunken beast, Harold runs away from home. He ends up meeting his uncle (on his mother's side), John Gregger. Harold had always been told his uncle was a sickly thin man who was always sniffing and sneezing and unable to lift a matchbook. The John he meets is a 6 foot 1 muscular woodsman who wears a brown duster, wields a pair of pistols and can shoot a wolf between the eyes. John takes his nephew in and decides to make him his porter and train the teen to become a hunter. The thing is, John doesn't hunt bears or deer.
John hunts bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster.
John is a monster hunter. He is hired by villages and wealthy businessmen to hunt down beasts of myth and legend. John has killed giant iguanas, fought with the Yeti (claiming a tooth in the process) and beheaded a unicorn (which are nasty, man eating creatures not at all like the fairy tales).
In this novel, John is hired by his old apprentice, Eric "Dasher" Dashel, to go to Bull Island to hunt down a beast that is slaughtering the settlers. He part of a hunting party made up of the greatest hunter sin North America, including ex-slave Bob Babcock (rumored to be the son of a giant and John's old drinking buddy), down on his luck hunter George Redclaw, and John's on-again, off-again lover Irma Van Kamp.
But even with all these hunters, their is the scent of death in the air.... because there is something unnatural in the woods of Bull Island... something that hungers from human flesh.
This is the first in what I would love to be a series of novels that are a mix of adventure, drama, and supernatural. The next novel, tentatively titled Thunder Valley, would deal with John and Harold hunting for strange flying monsters that are said to be half bat, half lizard.
Holy cow...

That... sounds awesome.
Sheer awesomeness is abound here. Nuff said.
Sounds awesome.
Hmm, sounds interesting. o_o
This seems like the type of story I would read. I always did love adventure with a side of supernatural. As the others said, it's awesome.
EDIT: Haha after refreshing this page, Interactive Dashie said she'd rather read Daring Do.
658050 CHANGELING!
658106 Indeed.
I'd read that.
Sounds exciting. Hope it works out for you.
That sounds like something I'd read.
I'd hazard a guess that the creature on Bull Island is a minotaur? Or something similar.
Sounds like a great premise.
Nearly completely unrelated question: have you read any of Elizabeth Peters's 'Amelia Peabody Mysteries' ?
Hmm... I guess with the caliber of some writers on this site, there had to be at least some published authors. I'll have to check this out when it's published.
Sounds like the kind of story i would read. SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!

Bull Island is named after the Bullfinch family... I used that name to make people think minotaur. The creature here is a lesser known one but has appeared in Supernatural, Marvel Comics and GRIMM
Bull Island's tone is a mix of Indiana Jones and GRIMM and is more similar to The Abundance in tone than my other stoires.
658050 So that's where Swiss cheese comes from...
658304 Truly.
That sounds awesome!
I would actually buy this book's hardcover, paperback, and digital version as part of a new "Awesome People I Supported Before They Were Famous/Established" collection I'm starting.
A story like this man, the plot is significant as always, yes, but you want to make character development and character interactions and relations the star of the story.
I'm sure you'll do absolutely awesome judging from the content you already put out on fimfiction, but if this series does end up getting published I am going to buy it and read about Harold's journey to become the ultimate monster hunter and all of the word-building and experiences that go along with it as he hunts these beasts of legend with John Marsto--uhhhhh I mean Gregger.

The many focus of the stories is Harold and John. They are family that never knew each other and they fight and talk and laugh and have adventures. Add into that the supporting characters (Irma alone is one of the most complex characters I have written and her relationship with John is utterly twisted and sexy) and you get a story where the humans are just as important as the monsters
When and where can I buy this?
I would actually buy that.
When is this book availed?!?
And where can I purchase it?!?
I'm already sold by the description!

I am preparing to do the final draft in January and will begin seeking out agents after that. God willing, this will be the year I get published.
Hmmm...interesting. Somehow I seem to have missed out on such a blog entry from you.
Well, I hinted at it with my comments and you sent me here...
It is an interesting idea for a story at least. I hope you find a publisher or at least one for other stories of yours. I have heard of some authors that had big troubles finding one.
Other than that, what about publishing a story about MLP to the public? Even if it were semi-official and you only sold it at Cons you probably would still make a good penny.
