I know I've posted decent few blogs in the past few days, but I just wanted to ask you about an idea that I had.
Firstly, I want you to know that the first two chapters of the sequel are complete and off to my prereaders. Christmas has delayed the publications of them and for that I apologize profusely.
So, my idea for TD and Discord is admittedly a darker one, but one that would focus very much on the characters of TD, The Mane Six, Discord, and especially Celestia. It would be a dark story, anypony who has read my story The Cutie Mark Crusaders Bring About the Apocalypse knows that I am not afraid to take Discord to dark places, so I just wanted to ask you about that. If you feel that a darker story is not something that you would enjoy then I can scrap the idea.
THE SEQUEL WOULD TAKE PRIORITY. I must stress that. Even now I'm working on chapter 3 (although I did just publish chapter 10 of The Public Life of Sweetie Belle) and I hope to have it done soon.
The only reason I post this is to get your thoughts on a darker TD and Discord story. I would still keep Discord as close to character as possible and this would be AU and thus not TDverse canon. What do you all think?
I dislike the idea. With TD's origin and means of coming to equestria explained, with him already having tasted dark situations without being corrupted by them the whole thing has been kinda sad and slice of life.
I think putting discord in it would take away from all the slice of life that this could continue to be with TD going through the world, not to mention discord's sealing is such a well resolved matter in the canon show that messing with it demands a lot of work to be acceptable.
I'd find it interesting, just so long as it's not GRIMdark. Part of me is interested in TD getting so desparate he goes to free DisQord for help. I just have one question: Does TD like Star Trek? Specifically TNG? 'Cause if so, he might be thinking Discord sounds so familiar.

Hmm, well Discord isn't really evil, he's just a little messed up. I mean, unlike Sombra or Chrysalis, he hasn't physically harmed anyone. I feel like it can be dark, but he can't have a raging blood lust.

I'm with him as well. I never liked stories in which Discord returns, because, as User Name said, it was pretty resolved, not to mention how difficult it is to write an insane reality warper. And there's also that episode 9 synopsis lurking about.
I just read something, in one of the next episodes, Discord will be released and "rehabilitated".
I don't like this idea, but anyway, if he can be trusted to rehabilitation, even less of a chance to put darkness with him.

It would be the farthest thing from canon because, you're quite right, it wouldn't fit with the world and the storyline I've created. It would be an AU fic, not an actual part of the TDverse. and no, it wouldn't be bloody and gory it would just have heavier themes as once again, you're right, Discord isn't a violent murderer, he's just out to cause the most chaos he can.
I say go for it. Alternate interpretation or not, I always enjoy seeing good characters deal with heavier themes. Hell, that's the entire reason I read mlp fan fiction in the first place. Besides it really is your decision, and if it is something you want to write then just do it and let people judge it then.

I just don't think this is going to result in a good story. All in all, I think he'd probably either go apeshit or completely apathetic, with a distinct third possibility of becoming the angsty hero who just wants to harden his heart to the suffering around him (which I really don't think highly of as a trope). I mean, it's not like I'm an expert here, but those are the three routes I could really see this rolling along, and none of them strike me as terribly interesting.
Still, if you want to write it, feel free to prove me wrong. I'm just throwing out my two cents here. ^_^

No, I still plan on the sequel being mostly humorous. It'll have a similar tone to the original story, or at least, I'm planning on it going that way. The Discord stuff would be not canon at all to the TDverse.

Discord breaks free and corrupts TD, he gains powers and ponies must find the chaotic TD and bring him back. Good idea!
And I already know the ending: TD accidentally hurts CMC and he uncorrupts himself.
Love dark stories, sadly it's not cannon so I probably wouldn't bother reading it anyways.

If I'm to be honest, any story involving the tags 'Discord' and 'dark' are an immediate turn off for me. I don't think I would read that spinoff if you wrote it. hope that answers your question.
