Update to Persona 6:REM · 4:38pm May 16th
Hi. How are you? Oh me? I'm doing better these days. I've been wanting to get back into the swing of things, and while I'm not 100 percent yet, I'm going to be writing a lot of different things both here and on Ao3 in the future.
That said, I'm here to talk about a change I'm making in Persona 6: REM.
See, in one chapter, I censored myself. I'll admit it here. I was scared of the reception I'd receive, and I didn't have faith in my readers. The scene where Rarity has fun with Rover in the alleyway, and we see what Blueblood recorded on his phone, that scene was supposed to be different. There were, elements of bestiality in that scene. This was not meant to just be put in for the sake of raunchiness, rather it was meant to, highlight the dichotomy between "Miss President" and "Dirty Diamond".
In the end, I chickened out. I was afraid it was too much, and so I backpedaled and took out a few bits. The story works as is, I'll admit. However, I reread that bit, this time with the uncensored scene, and I, liked the flow better. It made more sense to me.
Now, I have a strong opinion when it comes to art. I believe that, art should NOT be censored. At all. It ruins the original vision. Recently I began to play Stellar Blade, and I love that game. I think it's great as is. However, knowing it got censored upsets me. Yes, I know the censorship isn't much. Just two, maybe three outfits out of over 70, less blood, and something that might have been a racial slur were removed. In the grand scheme of things, not that bad.
But, it was still altered from the original vision. And that bit, angers me.
This site is one where people unironically read foalcon, and don't bat an eyelash. I've seen some of those stories on the featured list in the past. Those stories? They're on the site just for amusement, and I'll admit that I've read a few of those and even favorited them at one point, before I had my spiritual reawakening. Now, this new me sees storytelling in a different light. I still want to write extreme and sexy content. That's a natural part of my writing. However, I believe that, things like that can be in a story, and enhance the storytelling.
It's for that reason, I'm going to be returning to that chapter, and changing the scene in the alleyway back to how it was originally.
I'll post a blog when it's done, which should be later today or tomorrow. It will provide a link to that chapter again, for those who desire to reread it. If you don't want to bother, this is fine. I accept that, and will simply move on from there.
Also, I would like to apologize if this upsets anyone. For those who prefer the censored chapter, I'm sorry I'm changing that. However, this isn't about writing something meant to please other people anymore. This is about writing to adhere to my own integrity as an artist.
