To those who read this blog post, I'm going to elaborate on the magic system of this AU. There's different kinds of magic: biologically exclusive magic (magic that can only be used by a specific race) and general magic (magic not restricted to a specific race).

General magic

General magic is divided into eight different types: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, Darkness, Aether, and Mind. All sapient races in the world are born with magical energy, but, they need an aptitude to use it.

The aptitude for certain element can be discovered by using small shards of magic stones (spell stones) of different colors, each element having a different colored stone. If a being chants a spell while holding a spell stone and said spell stone reacts, then the being has an aptitude for that element.

Aptitudes also have intensity. The more intense one's aptitude is, the more powerful his/her spells are.

To test for one's aptitude, one must hold a spell stone and say "Come forth, (insert element name here)."

However, Aether and Mind spells function on spell name alone. So, to test for Aether or Mind, one simply needs to hold a violet (Aether) or gray (Mind) spell stone and say the name of a spell that falls under the matching element.

Below are the different elements one can control and the corresponding spell stone colors:

Fire: red color. If an aptitude is present, a blast of fire will erupt from the stone.
Water: blue color. If an aptitude is present, a blast of water will erupt from the stone. Water and ice can both be generated from this stone.
Earth: yellow color. If an aptitude is present, a miniature avalanche of sand will fall from the stone.
Wind: green color. If an aptitude is present, a wind tunnel will erupt from the stone. Anything related to storms can be generated from this stone. This includes lightning.
Light: white color. If an aptitude is present, the stone will glow. Light is viewed as something "holy," meaning it can heal and purify. Purification spells have a great advantage against undead enemies.
Darkness: black color. If an aptitude is present, a cloud of darkness will form around the stone. Summoning spells are included in this element.
Aether: violet color. Aether is a personal magic that corresponds to the body. It's very rare for multiple beings to have the exact same Aether spell. Presto can use any Aether spell as long as he knows its name and understands its effect.
Mind: gray color. Mind is a personal magic that corresponds to the mind. It's very rare for multiple beings to have the exact same Mind spell. Like with Aether, Presto can use any Mind spell as long has he knows its name and understands its effect.

The amount of aptitudes one has varies from being to being. Unicorns are commonly known to have at least two aptitudes, though, there's rare cases of one having as many as three aptitudes. Alicorns are the most magically potent of all the races.

Spell mechanics

Spells are what magic users chant in order to use the magic they are capable of. Most spells seen follow a certain pattern:

Step 1: The user calls the spell. (example: Come forth,)
Step 2: The user states the element (or the variation of an element) involved. (example: fire!)
Step 3: The user defines what the spell does. (example: Hail of Red Stones:)
Step 4: The user calls the spell by its name. (example: [Ignis Fire]!)

Not all spells follow this pattern. A skilled enough mage can bypass the need for an incantation altogether.

Additionally, Aether and Mind spells do not follow this pattern. Instead, the name of the spell must be recited.

Artifacts and magical tools

Known spells can be imbued to materials to create magic tools that can cast spell or create unique effects.

Biologically exclusive magic

Biologically exclusive magic can only be used by specific races and operate independently of incantation or mana (magical energy). Examples include shapeshifting for changelings and kelpies, levitation for unicorns, kirins, and alicorns, flight for pegasi, hippogriffs, thestrals, dragons, griffons, and alicorns, and amphibian adaptation for kelpies and hippocampi.
