Some Art of a More Pleasant Sort · 7:51pm May 11th
Because I am obsessive about those sorts of details, I had to know if the captain's gig could plausibly fit on Nebula's main deck with her gasbag fully inflated. I wrote a scene where that happens, and a little voice at the back of my head kept nagging at me to make sure I wasn't describing something that couldn't be done. Turns out after a morning of modeling and measuring, the gig can fit—just barely.
Here's a side-by-side comparison:
EDIT: And I'm just now realizing that I spent five hours doing this to make sure I wouldn't have to spend an hour or so to re-write the scene.
The writer's life.
The things we do for in-universe consistency, logic and plausibility when making art, eh?
Or, well, at least when we've done detailed maps, design and 3D modelling of the moving flying vehicle much of the story (and the one before it and after it) takes place on several years past, and are thus "locked in" to a design of it that can't be changed.

It is so tragically true!
And that's awesome.
I know I'd feel better after five hours of confirming the viability of my original vision than after an hour of fixing something that might actually not have been broken in the first place.
Love the work and passion you put into this. Just ... don't burn yourself out.
This is why I always wrote gigs and other small craft as flier towed flyers. Although even the Princess's Bit launched her flyers from below decks, because everybody loves Battlestar-style launch tubes.
Although yes, we did do a lot of work making sure that the turul princess would fit on the main deck, if not the quarter deck.

And honestly, there are some of us who really, really appreciate the effort, even if most folk might not notice!

Well, major refits can change a lot of things, and Nebula has gone through more than her fair share. If you compare the quarterdeck illustrations from here to the ones in The Skyla Pseudonym, you'll notice some fairly drastic changes happen in the next ten years.

No danger of that! I might complain, but I love noodling around with this sort of stuff!
Thank you for the effort you put in. :)
