Thoughts on Galaxy Quest · 3:55pm April 14th
Finally getting around to writing up my thoughts on this one. I had heard plenty of good things about it from my parents, though I had yet to see it. Finally, we rung in the new year by watching "Galaxy Quest" with dinner.
Let me see that I am not a Star Trek fan by nature. I don't have anything *against* it by any means, but I've never been particularly tempted to seek any of the shows or movies out.
Let me also say then, that even with that lack of investment in Trek, that I still had an absolute ball with this movie.
"Galaxy Quest" is, plain and simple, a delightful movie. It's screamingly funny in places (who ever would have guessed that Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman would all play so well off each other?) but is never mean-spirited in its parody of Star Trek, its world OR its fans (indeed, as my dad observed, the fans even help save the say in the end; something that one could never imagine in, say, a parody of Star Wars); and when the movie needs to be serious, it does that quite well too.
All in all, this was just a darn good movie with a lot of heart and humor, and one that manages to be a great time whether or not you're in the know about Star Trek, or just looking for a good way to pass a few hours. Definitely recommended.
