Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising chapter rewrite off to prereaders · 9:06pm February 22nd

I’ve given them a week to hit it, and I’ve already started into into a brand new chapter, with the first 500 words down. At long last—and sorry again for the long sideshow there; I will address that directly in the first part of the text as Sunset gets dinged by creative writing instructor Ms. Cherilee for letting her narration lose focus—it’s time for Midnight to deal with Lemon Zest. Probably going to be a two-parter this go-around, but we’ll see.

The rewrite of 19: Enter the Griffons, Part 6 - v2 is now nearly 21,000 words long. Suppose I could break it in two, but it is a climactic chapter, which means I’m a lot more lenient on length. I truly believe I’ve found a much better way to handle the ending of the Queen Moly/Dragon Lord V duel than what was there before, though that in part means that it’s gotten a lot longer. I also removed the cuntboy fetish that fell flat from that scene before, and substituted something much more appropriate to each character in its place.

No teaser, because there’s no way to sanitize it this time; even the sideshow commentary is pretty explicit. The current plan is to depublish the current version of the chapter when the new version launches. I guess I should keep a link to it if anybody’s curious, but honestly? I’d rather have it just disappear completely, because it really was a dud.

In any event, look for it no later than next Wednesday, or sooner if prereads come in before that. As for the next chapter following, I’ll aim for having it ready in 2-3 weeks. Thanks again for your patience, and thanks again those of you who spoke up to call out what was wrong with not just the last chapter, but the whole bloody arc.

When the Lemon Zest chapter launches, I’ll add a note at the end of the last Shadowbolt girl chapter before the griffon arc explaining what’s ahead, and inviting readers to skip over that arc to Lemon Zest if it’s not something they’re interested in. Too late to split it off into a side story like I should have, so that’s the solution I’ve come up with.

Does that mean that the Dragons will wins this time and not end it in a draw?

Ah crap. I forgot to hit it. I'm going to check it out now.
