I have given the Hand of Malenia a lifesteal effect, exactly like the boss who wielded it, something I honestly still think should be patched into the game, as everything you get for beating the most infamous, brutally hard fight in the game is nearly useless and not game-changing at all.

Just started Journey 8, and I intend to find out.
I'm certain I won't be able to go blow for blow, especially since she's been able to OHK me with her grab impale on Journey 6 and 7.
But it will probably make the fight as interesting as it can be this high up.
I've already died twice with this thing, so it's not an OP "I Win" button. You still have to think a little or you'll get bonked on the head enough times to get sent back to a checkpoint.
Good improvement for the sword, especially what other Katanas can do. If I remember her great Rune dose something like it but it's not that great.

Yeah, Malenia's Great Rune (attacking right after getting hit allows you to heal up to the amount lost for five seconds) pales in comparison to this mod.
