Medusa Pencil Test Animation By James Baxter · 4:10am Nov 30th, 2023

I've recently found this video from Lauren Faust's Twitter page, while browsing Sony's shelved Medusa. And low and behold! A pencil test animation, created by veteran animator, James Baxter – who, like Eric Goldberg, was legend in the production of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc.

And below, are Lauren's old concept arts of Medusa.

Hopefully, we don't have to wait any longer soon. Here's hoping that Medusa will indeed become a cinematic, be it Lauren Faust's, or James Baxter's, or both.

Hidden potential that sadly won't see the light of day in theaters or T.V. :ajsleepy:

This is amazing! The video makes her look so confident despite this curse she's living with.

It certainly does. This was made sometime after Lauren Faust was let go from being the film's director after it had taken a different direction.

According to her Twitter post, the new director wanted Medusa to go for a "Disney-esque" approach. Sadly, it wasn't enough and the movie has been shelved since 2019.

And if you look at Lauren Faust's concept art for Maddie at the bottom, you can see that Medusa was depicted as rather shy, almost withdrawn, and clumsy. Compare her version of Medusa to the one in the pencil animation, it makes us wonder what either versions of the movie would be if they could've been fully realized.

She could've started out as shy, almost withdrawn, and clumsy. But then during the course of the story, as she's learning to feel more comfortable in her own skin, we see her gradually grow into a more confident, sociable, and perhaps even more graceful. Compromise is what I call it.

Wow. Shame.
